Japan Gantz’s Last-Ditch Counterattack
Bonnie held her left hand in front of her, intense static crackling through her fur. Seeing this, Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato hurriedly raised both hands to show they meant no harm.
Yet when Bonnie saw Reika Shimohira and the others, she still did not relax in the slightest. Her entire body was taut, Armament Haki covering her surface.
Team battle missions were cruel to begin with, and then the Purge Mission and Scavengers had suddenly appeared. The upheaval in this world, along with White Sanctuary’s powerful ambush, had caught her completely off guard.
Having lost her teammates and her right hand, she was like a startled cat. At the slightest hint of danger, she would attack without regard for anything else and then flee.
"Your hand…"
Reika Shimohira was stunned to see the powerful Bonnie in such a sorry state, missing her right hand. She immediately wanted to step forward, but Bonnie pointed her claws at her.
"Bonnie, calm down. We’re here to help you!"
After much coaxing, Bonnie finally lowered her guard slightly. Mainly because she had indeed discovered on her reputation panel that her reputation with the Tokyo Team had risen rather than fallen.
Kei Kurono quickly explained their purpose, but before they could go on to describe what had happened afterward, Black Ball’s teleportation had already begun.
Reika Shimohira’s head began disappearing from the top down. Instead, the sight made Bonnie’s eyes light up.
She immediately reached out and grabbed Reika Shimohira. Sure enough, her own head also began disappearing bit by bit. When a Gantz mission ended and people were sent back to the Black Ball room, all one needed to do was grab the body of a Black Ball Team member to be teleported along with them.
After Bonnie was teleported into the Black Ball room, her right hand grew back as well.
She was now in a peculiar state. On one hand, she was Bonnie, a Reincarnation Star Person listed by Gantz as a kill target. On the other, she was a member of the Tokyo Team.
The moment they returned to the Black Ball room, before they could relax, new images began appearing on Black Ball.
Even the song that played before every mission did not appear this time.
To Bonnie, this likely meant that those controlling Gantz had become so desperate that they were beginning to lose their composure.
Target: Reincarnation Star Person · BOSS · Mercenary TaoTraits: Powerful, terrifying, cruelPoints: 100+Kill Mercenary Tao, and the entire team receives full marks!!For the first time, Black Ball displayed a notice saying the whole team would receive full marks after the kill. Kei Kurono and the others exchanged looks, all finding it strange.
"So it’s him…"
Daizaemon Kaze looked solemnly at the image appearing inside Black Ball. It showed the face of a handsome man, but he knew full well that the man was nothing more than something wearing human skin.
That kind of power far surpassed any alien they had ever seen.
Just the aftershock of an attack could send all of them flying. He did not even need to make a move to rob the Tokyo Team of their ability to act.
Kenzō Sakata, wearing sunglasses, also looked grave. In truth, during that brief encounter, he had tried using his psychic abilities to influence Mercenary Tao. But the other man had moved so fast that his eyes could not even track him, much less lock onto him with his powers.
"As a bit of advice from a former teammate, I suggest you give up this mission."
Bonnie covered her wrist and flexed it. Gantz’s technology was no different from the Infinite Dimensional Space in this regard; her restored hand was completely normal.
Pointing at Mercenary Tao inside Black Ball, she said briefly,
"That guy is a monster. He’s completely beyond anything you can contend with."
"You all think I’m strong, right?"
Bonnie spoke, and everyone else nodded. But Bonnie continued,
"This strong me was just had her arm cut off by another Reincarnation Star Person in a single move, and I almost died."
"And that Reincarnation Star Person who could defeat me in one move likely couldn’t withstand a single attack from Mercenary Tao…"
Bonnie had never seen Mercenary Tao make a move, but she knew exactly what kind of power those Title-level Reincarnators possessed. They were people who could easily wipe out her group or White Sanctuary.
And Mercenary Tao had already killed a Title-level Reincarnator alone before that terrifying B711 Secondary World mission had even begun.
They were on entirely different levels.
Masaru Kato could not understand at all. They were both "Reincarnation Star People," so why was there such an enormous difference in strength?
But faced with a chance for everyone to escape Gantz together, how could they bear to give up?
"As long as there are enough of us and we all shoot at him together, no matter what, we should be able to kill him, right…"
At that moment, parts of human bodies began appearing in the room again, bit by bit. Some appeared starting from their feet, while others appeared from their heads.
These people were usually humans who had died recently, their information collected by Gantz and entered into it.
A handsome long-haired man was the first to appear. The moment he saw him, Kei Kurono’s expression changed drastically. Shion Izumi?!
This man had been the Tokyo Team’s captain long ago. After earning full marks, he had chosen to erase his memories and leave Gantz. Later, he had returned to Gantz because of a massacre, only to eventually be killed by vampires.
Yet no one had earned 100 points to revive him. Why had Gantz directly revived him now?!
What concerned them even more were the people who appeared afterward. Bonnie’s body stiffened as familiar faces appeared again, and for a moment, she did not know whether she should be happy or angry.
The delicately featured, androgynous Lotus and the burly but mild-tempered Ama were copied out by Gantz one after another.
More and more people appeared, every one of them exuding a hardened air.
How could Bonnie not realize that the conglomerates controlling the Tokyo Team’s Black Ball had likely already taken the initiative to intervene in this game?
Mercenary Tao’s existence had already left those people unable to eat or sleep in peace.
That was why they had begun breaking the rules, copying out these powerful Black Ball Team members.
As the group became complete, the sides of Black Ball opened, revealing weapons and Reinforcement Suits one after another.
This was proof that mission teleportation was about to begin.
"What’s going on, Bonnie? Why are we here?"
Ama still had not figured out what had happened, while Lotus wore an expression that seemed both tearful and smiling. He shook his head and gave Bonnie an apologetic look.
"Sorry, Bonnie. It seems we died early, uselessly, and made your team lose points…"
Hearing Lotus’s familiar gentle tone, Bonnie’s eyes instantly blurred. Looking at her teammates, she said,
"Everyone, listen to me. We have to stall for time. As long as we wait until the full moon… Only when the full moon comes can I protect you all~"
"Before then, please survive as long as you can."
Lotus shook his head and put on his Reinforcement Suit. The top of his head began disappearing bit by bit as teleportation started.
"What nonsense are you talking about, Captain Bonnie? Ama and I have already… Naturally, we’ll use these worthless lives of ours to buy you time!"
Ama nodded as well. His head had already vanished completely in the teleportation.
Lotus looked at Bonnie one last time and said,
"Bonnie, live well in our place."
Bzzzt~
Because their heads had been teleported first, their vision recovered before their ability to move.
The Tokyo Team looked around at what appeared to be a field somewhere. Judging by its distance from Mount Fuji, they were clearly no longer in Tokyo.
This was the first time they had been teleported outside Tokyo.
Humans in Reinforcement Suits were continuously teleported in all around them, their numbers far exceeding the total number of the Tokyo Team.
Bonnie knew that the conglomerates throughout Japan had likely joined forces to oppose Mercenary Tao.
But this was most likely futile as well.
The next moment, a heart-pounding sense of danger struck. Her Observation Haki sensed the threat, and she immediately pushed Reika Shimohira and Lotus beside her to the ground, shouting,
"Watch out!"
Bzzzt!
A golden beam shot through the air from an extreme distance, flying straight at them. A Tokyo Team member standing not far from Bonnie was pierced through the forehead without even moving.
Splurt!
Blood and brain matter burst out instantly. The Reinforcement Suit was completely ineffective. The man swayed twice before collapsing to the ground, lifeless.
"Ah! Watch out, the enemy is in the manor!"
Someone shouted, and in the next moment, H-Guns and Gravity Guns began firing wildly in every direction.
But Bonnie held everyone down and said,
"Don’t move. We just need to hold out."
"Hold out? Until when?"
Pinned to the ground, Lotus still explained,
"Until Mercenary Tao kills all those conglomerates and takes Gantz. Then our mission will naturally be canceled…"
