Kara’s Fury
This was a brutal massacre.
From the very start, this war between two sides of completely unequal strength had become utterly one-sided.
Against the Kryptonian technology wielded by General Zod, the artillery shells and grenades used by Earth’s armies were practically clubs in the hands of cavemen. Forget hurting the enemy—even empowered by the Yellow Sun, those bullets could not catch up to the Kryptonians’ speed.
Most Kryptonians could not even be bothered to dodge. To them, the bullets and artillery fire were no different from a scratch.
The physiques of Kryptonians varied as well. Some absorbed solar radiation quickly, while others did so slowly. This meant that most Kryptonians could not reach General Zod’s level of enhancement. Even so, they were more than enough to face humans, because Earth’s weapons could not penetrate their defenses at all.
Piercing sounds continuously rang out above the battlefield, sharp and shrill, like bright whistles. Then thunderous explosions kept erupting.
Those seemingly devastating weapons certainly created an impressive spectacle, but every soldier knew that, so far, they had not killed a single enemy.
The Kryptonians’ counterattack was even fiercer. The spacecraft circling high above descended slowly beneath the protection of force-field shields. Several long barrels then extended from them—laser weapons that did not even require precise aiming, because they could intelligently lock onto every enemy.
With just one shot, most soldiers did not even have time to react. Countless rocks and clods of dirt were hurled into the sky, along with torn human bodies and tank fragments. In the end, all that remained was a straight trench several meters deep carved into the earth.
The moment such a powerful weapon appeared, the human army fell silent. Though they continued their futile counterattacks, everyone understood one thing: the outcome of this battle had been decided from the beginning.
Amid the flames erupting from countless explosions, General Zod stepped out onto a platform extended from the spacecraft. He admired the slaughter before him, his expression utterly calm, as if the deaths of these people could not stir even the slightest ripple in his heart.
In truth, he was somewhat weary. Killing these helpless humans brought him no satisfaction. On the contrary, it only made him feel that he was wasting time.
"Go. End this quickly." General Zod spoke, his voice somewhat hoarse, yet his tone carried a terrifying authority that no one dared defy.
"Yes."
At General Zod’s side, a woman with short black hair immediately answered. Then she leaped straight from the spacecraft and joined the chaotic battlefield below.
This woman was Faora, General Zod’s adjutant. She possessed exceptionally formidable combat skills and had been genetically shaped from birth to exist for war.
She was General Zod’s most trusted subordinate and, among all the Kryptonians present, the strongest apart from General Zod himself. She absorbed Yellow Sun radiation only slightly more slowly than he did.
The moment she entered the battle, a gap was instantly torn through the already struggling human defensive line.
Watching Faora reap human lives like a war goddess, General Zod gave a slight nod, acknowledging her abilities. Then he raised his head, shifting his gaze from the battlefield beneath his feet to the sky above him.
There, a girl in a red-and-blue suit with a red cape fluttering behind her had appeared at some point, hovering in the air and glaring furiously at him. Even General Zod could not help but be surprised by the killing intent overflowing from her eyes.
"Kara Zor-El, we’ve been waiting for you for a long time." As General Zod looked at the girl, his iceberg-like face finally changed slightly. Unlike the killing intent in Kara’s eyes, a trace of delight appeared in his own.
When Kara ignored him, General Zod did not mind. He simply continued speaking to himself.
"This attack was merely a test of Earth. The World Engine still requires calibration, and I had planned to launch the final campaign tomorrow. Then we would begin transforming Earth. Only by destroying this world can our world be reborn."
Kara clenched her teeth tightly. Her voice trembled as she slowly uttered her first words.
"W-where is my brother?"
Hearing the question, General Zod finally understood where her killing intent came from.
"It seems you may have learned about it as well. Then I won’t hide it from you. Your uncle—Jor-El—hid away a key that could enable Krypton’s rebirth. He concealed it within a child, encoding the genetic data and materials of all Kryptonians into that child’s DNA, then sent him to Earth in an escape pod."
". . . Where is my brother?"
After hearing about her brother from Zhang Ye, Kara had been filled with hatred for General Zod, but she had also clung to a sliver of hope. She did not want to believe that her brother had truly died.
But seeing General Zod’s expression now, Kara’s heart sank straight to the bottom.
"We intercepted his spacecraft, but he was not the one we were looking for. You were, Kara Zor-El. I’m sorry, but that child did not survive."
Before General Zod could finish speaking, he suddenly saw a faint red glow emerge from Kara’s eyes. Vast amounts of powerful energy rapidly gathered there. Even General Zod did not dare underestimate the threat posed by that destructive power.
"Aaaahhh!!"
A piercing cry echoed across the battlefield.
Resentment, anguish, hatred, unwillingness. Countless negative emotions reached their peak! Then, in the next instant, they all erupted with that incomparably scarlet laser beam.
The overwhelming force blasted General Zod away. Driven by Cyclops’s trajectory, he was hurled from the spacecraft straight down to the ground by destructive force, moving through the air at a speed too fast for the naked eye to follow.
The violent energy reaction instantly drew the attention of everyone on the battlefield.
General Zod lay in a massive crater. The armor on his arm had partly come loose, traces of red energy lingering over it, while the marks left by the laser’s bombardment filled the area around him.
"General!"
Seeing this, Faora immediately abandoned her assault on the defenseless humans and turned to rescue him. She already knew the attacker’s identity: Kara, the target of their mission, who carried Krypton’s central codex.
Though Faora did not believe that a half-grown girl could truly injure General Zod, as his adjutant, she could never forgive an enemy for attacking her general.
With that thought, she violently stamped her foot against the ground and launched herself into the air.
But the instant she moved, three bolts of lightning directly caught up with her!
