To the Battlefield

The breaking news instantly drew everyone’s attention. Even Kara, who had been lost in thought, stood up and fixed her gaze on the television screen.

"They’ve started attacking." Little Barry Allen’s mouth fell open.

"Probably because the military has no information on Kara and no relevant intelligence, so…" Barry Allen frowned. In his memories, Superman had contacted the military on his own and boarded General Zod’s ship alongside a reporter.

"Humans are no match for them. If this continues, they’ll only be throwing their lives away." Kara’s eyes brimmed with hatred for Zod. Krypton had once been a peaceful planet filled with hope, but now she could hardly wait to kill General Zod, Krypton’s disgrace.

"Then what are we waiting for? Let’s get over there and support them."

Seeing Barry Allen and the others unable to sit still, Pietro hurriedly stopped them.

"Don’t act rashly. Zhang Ye and old Mr. Bruce haven’t come out yet. Without equipment made from those stones, going there won’t accomplish anything."

"But who knows how long they’ll be researching? What if General Zod activates the World Engine?"

"It’s ready."

Before the agitated Barry Allen could finish, a voice suddenly interrupted him.

Everyone turned toward the sound and saw Batman and Zhang Ye emerging from the laboratory. After working on experiments for so long, both looked somewhat exhausted, though they were in good spirits.

As Zhang Ye walked up to them, he already knew what they wanted to say before they could speak. He raised a hand for them to look at him, then said directly,

"We already know what’s happening. Get ready—we leave in five minutes. We’ve also prepared weapons for dealing with Kryptonians. We’ll discuss the detailed plan on the way. Put on your gear first."

At that, no one said anything more. They all sprang into action and put on their suits.

Barry Allen took out the suit stored inside his ring. It was made from special fibers and could normally be shrunk down and kept in the ring, then retrieved whenever needed. As for its appearance, though, it was hardly attractive. At least, by Zhang Ye’s standards, the suit was difficult to appreciate.

Little Barry Allen had modified Old Batman’s suit instead, spray-painting it red and drawing a lightning-bolt emblem across the chest. He was probably trying to imitate the older Barry Allen’s style.

Kara needed no introduction—she had always worn her suit. As for Pietro, during this time, he had used the Batcave’s advanced technology to put together a blue suit for himself, inspired by what Zhang Ye had told him about Quicksilver’s suit in other universes.

Bruce Wayne brought out several specially made bat masks and warned them, "Fear Toxin is very potent. To avoid unnecessary trouble, you’d better wear these."

"No problem." Seeing Batman so serious, everyone hurriedly nodded.

Batman had pulled Zhang Ye into working through the night, trying to infuse the radiation-bearing stones into the Fear Toxin. At present, the only thing capable of threatening Kryptonians was Kryptonite, so if the Fear Toxin was to work, Kryptonite had to be added to it.

In the comics, quite a few villains had used this very method to cause Superman plenty of trouble.

The most famous example was undoubtedly the Injustice storyline. After Joker kidnapped Superman’s wife, Lois, he used a similar Kryptonite gas to make Superman hallucinate and mistake her for Doomsday, directly causing Superman to kill his wife Lois and the child in her womb.

That showed just how effective certain gases could be. Even against powerful Kryptonians, as long as a way could be found to incorporate Kryptonite, they would still experience the terror of these toxins.

Taking the opportunity, Zhang Ye pulled Little Barry Allen aside. Seeing how nervous Little Barry was, Zhang Ye thought for a moment before speaking.

"Barry, we’ll definitely win this time, so don’t be nervous. I’ve got this."

"Mm, I… I’ve just never faced anything like this before." Little Barry Allen forced a bitter smile. After all, he was still only a student.

"Relax. See that clock?" Zhang Ye patted Little Barry’s shoulder and pointed toward the clock in the distance.

"I see it."

"Remember this time. I want you to promise me that if we don’t win, or if you run into any problems, I want you to appear five seconds after this very moment."

After saying that, Zhang Ye immediately fell silent. He held his breath and began waiting quietly, while Little Barry froze for a moment before falling silent as well, not understanding why.

After following Zhang Ye’s gaze and looking around for a long while, Little Barry Allen finally could not stand it anymore. More than ten seconds had passed when he quietly asked, "Zhang, what are we waiting for?"

"Nothing." Zhang Ye looked deeply at Little Barry Allen, then smiled faintly. "Just pretend I never said any of that. Anyway, remember this: your goal is to rescue those people while keeping yourself safe as much as possible."

"Mm, understood." Little Barry Allen nodded firmly.

Second by second, time passed. Once everyone had finished making their preparations, they gathered together.

Because of the Batplane’s capacity, only Batman, Pietro, and Zhang Ye would be aboard it. Kara could fly, and the two Flashes could run incredibly fast, so they could easily keep up.

Looking at the six people gathered there, the nervousness in Little Barry Allen’s heart was quickly replaced by excitement. He said eagerly, "This makes us the Justice League too, right?"

"No." Barry Allen answered instinctively.

"Not really?"

Barry Allen hesitated. "Barely. We’re missing a one-hundred-percent goddess, an honest Terminator, and a super beautiful mermaid."

"But the Justice League where you’re from doesn’t have allies from other universes." Pietro raised an eyebrow. He did not think the people Barry was talking about were stronger than him.

Perhaps because of Pietro’s joking, the tense atmosphere caused by the approaching battle eased considerably.

Zhang Ye smiled as well, then put the Bird-Beak Mask over his head.

"It’s time to go."
