Nightcrawler
The lasers rapidly heated Wolverine’s claws. Wolverine was starting to struggle, so he spun aside to evade the lasers, then charged fiercely at Modified Deadpool.
Modified Deadpool Teleported behind Wolverine. A section of Adamantium blade extended from the back of his hand and viciously stabbed toward Wolverine’s lower back.
At the critical moment, Wolverine suddenly vanished. When he reappeared, he was already behind Modified Deadpool. Wang Bert had stepped in to help.
Although Wolverine did not understand why he had Teleported, his combat experience was extensive. He immediately thrust his claws at Modified Deadpool’s back, but missed because Modified Deadpool Teleported away again.
Modified Deadpool possessed high-speed reflex nerves and was almost impossible to ambush.
Next, Deadpool appeared beside Wolverine and swiftly slashed at him with his twin blades. Wolverine fought back fiercely with his claws, but he quickly fell into a disadvantage.
Modified Deadpool was far stronger than Wolverine. In the movie, if Sabretooth had not helped him, Wolverine would have been no match for Modified Deadpool at all.
Wang Bert walked over to Stryker and sighed. "I have to say, this Wade is really powerful. It’s hard to imagine he was created more than a decade ago."
"Other than me, no one could create such a great work. In fact, even I only succeeded once."
Stryker said proudly, "If Wade hadn’t had his neck cut by Wolverine back then, you mutants would have been wiped out by me long ago."
"Mutants aren’t that fragile, Colonel Stryker. How did you transplant superpowers into Wade?"
Wang Bert asked. This Modified Deadpool was somewhat similar to the Sentinels. They might have used the same technology, or perhaps the same material.
Stryker did not answer. It was a core secret. How could he possibly tell a mutant?
"You’ll tell me obediently soon enough."
Wang Bert crouched and reached into Stryker’s coat. Stryker jolted, gripping a small knife in his left hand as he stabbed fiercely at Wang Bert’s neck.
Wang Bert caught Stryker’s wrist and drove the knife into his other leg. What a joke. He was Bert Martial God Wang. How could he possibly be ambushed? Stryker screamed. Wang Bert could not be bothered with him and took several vials from his coat—special drugs made from his son’s brain fluid.
Stryker roared, "Wade, come back and protect me! Kill this bastard!"
At his command, Modified Deadpool immediately kicked Wolverine away. Then he turned toward Wang Bert, and his eyes rapidly glowed red.
"You should rest first. When I have time in the future, I’ll slowly study the abilities in your body."
Wang Bert took out a stack of Banknotes and said, "Wade, uh, the Wade in front of me has a problem with his body and suddenly faints."
The Banknotes vanished. The red glow in Wade’s eyes rapidly faded, and with a bang, he collapsed to the ground unconscious.
Wolverine and Stryker were both dumbfounded. Wolverine asked incredulously, "What kind of superpower is that?"
"It’s a superpower called Money Power. As long as I have money, I can do anything."
Wang Bert smiled. It had not cost much just now, because Deadpool’s body already had problems.
Stryker shouted, "Money Power? That’s impossible! How could there be such an absurd superpower?"
Wolverine also looked unconvinced. Wang Bert said, "Why not? If I have enough money, I can even bring your wife back to life."
"What? Really?"
Stryker shouted excitedly, "If you can revive my wife, I’ll do anything you ask of me."
"I don’t need you to do anything for me. I only said that because I wanted you to experience the feeling of falling from Heaven into Hell. Put simply, I’m messing with you."
Wang Bert said with a smile. Stryker froze, then opened his mouth to curse, but Wang Bert grabbed his hair and slammed his head hard into the ground. Stryker knew what Wang Bert intended to do and struggled desperately.
Wang Bert snorted and turned to Wolverine. "Help me hold him down."
Wolverine walked over and pinned Stryker’s head down. "I appreciate your approach, but his life is mine. I have to kill him myself."
"Don’t worry. I’ll give his life to you."
Wang Bert took out a vial and dripped its contents onto the back of Stryker’s neck. As a corroded mark appeared, Stryker’s struggles gradually stopped.
Wang Bert nodded in satisfaction and motioned for Wolverine to release Stryker. Then he took a camera out of his storage space and set it up beside Stryker.
Wolverine grew even more surprised. "You can conjure things too?"
"It’s a storage space, basically like a magic bag from a novel."
Wang Bert casually explained, "I need Stryker’s testimony. Be patient. This is very important to mutants."
Wolverine hesitated, then asked, "Can you really revive other people?"
"How should I put it? If I have enough money, I can do anything."
As Wang Bert adjusted the camera tripod, he said, "After all these years, God knows where Silver Fox’s Soul Stone is. To revive her, I’d have to return to the past, freeze her when she was about to die, and bring her back to the present.
"Uh, the whole process would cost at least several billion dollars, since it involves traveling through time."
"You can travel through time too?"
Wolverine stared in disbelief. This Money Power was far too powerful. Uh, it was powerful on Wang Bert. If he had it himself, it would be useless, because he had no money.
"I told you, I can do anything. Damn, this camera is hard to use. I really miss smartphones that could take pictures anytime."
"Several billion?"
Wolverine was getting agitated. Even if he sold himself, he would not have that much money. He asked, "Why bring her back to treat her? Can’t you just treat her in the past?"
"No. That would interfere with time and cause too much trouble. I need to ensure that what happened in the past remains unchanged."
Wang Bert’s eyes lit up as he said, "Logan, if you’re willing to work for me, I promise to bring Silver Fox back to you within ten years. What do you think?"
I may not have Jean Grey, but I can revive Silver Fox.
"Work for you?"
Wolverine hesitated. As a wolf from the north, he did not like being restrained.
Wang Bert said, "Ten years and several billion dollars. That means, Wolf Uncle, you’d earn several hundred million a year."
"Several hundred million a year?"
Wolverine could not help swallowing. Several hundred million dollars was no small amount. Even he was shaken by it.
Wolverine thought for a moment and asked, "What would I have to do?"
"Your personality isn’t suited to a nine-to-five job. Just be my private mercenary."
Wang Bert said, "Normally, you can do whatever you want. When I need you, you’ll help me fight and kill people. Also, I’ll pay you a monthly salary and make sure you can afford premium cigars."
Wolverine gritted his teeth. "I can work for you, but you must help me revive Silver Fox within ten years. Otherwise, I will never let you go."
"No problem. It might not even take ten years."
Wang Bert smiled. He was in a very good mood. He had thought he would not be able to recruit Wolf Uncle, but just when there seemed to be no way out, a new path had opened before him.
Soon, Wang Bert set up the camera. Then he took out several Banknotes and said, "Make my voice sound like the president’s."
Wolverine was stunned. "You can do that too?"
"Of course. In America, money lets you do whatever you want."
Wang Bert spoke in the president’s voice. Then he ordered Stryker, "Stryker, how many mutants have you killed? Tell me in detail."
"I killed many mutants. Some were directly killed, while others died during experiments…"
Stryker began speaking in a hollow voice. At least several hundred mutants had died because of him. The more Wolverine listened, the angrier he became. If he had not known that the boss needed evidence, he would have rushed over and torn Stryker to pieces long ago.
Damn Stryker. Damn the American military. Damn the American Government.
There isn’t a single good person in the White House. That’s why the Professor always fails.
Meanwhile, Psylocke and Wade were clearing out the living people in the base. They were highly efficient, and the guards rapidly dwindled.
After a while, they reached the base’s prison cells. After dealing with the guards, they found a very unusual "person" inside one of the cages.
This person was entirely blue, with strange holy markings tattooed over his body. When he saw Psylocke and Wade enter the prison, he hurriedly shouted, "For God’s sake, please save me! I’m not a bad person."
Wade quipped, "For God’s sake? Buddy, you’re a demon, aren’t you?"
Nightcrawler shouted, "I’m not a demon. I’m a devout follower of God. My appearance is a trial God gave me. It must be."
"Self-deception."
Psylocke was thoroughly disdainful. She slashed open the cage door and said, "Come with me. The boss likes mutants. You should fetch a good price."
"You’re going to sell me?"
Nightcrawler asked in shock. It was worth mentioning that his hands were locked in special shackles, super shackles developed by Stryker that could seal a mutant’s abilities—the materials were scarce, so they could not be widely used.
That was why Nightcrawler had been unable to escape. After all, his mutant power was Teleportation.
"Don’t worry. She’s just introducing you to a job."
Wade said with a broad smile, "Of course, you can choose not to come with us. But our orders are to leave no one alive."
"Leave no one alive?"
Nightcrawler swallowed and hurriedly said, "I’ll go with you. Being sold is better than being chopped up. Besides, I was sold when I was a child too."
Wade was somewhat surprised. "You were that valuable?"
"The circus needed freaks like me. Later, the circus went bankrupt, and I had nowhere to go. I could only hide in an abandoned church. That was when I began believing in God."
Nightcrawler said, "All my misfortunes are trials God gave me. One day, He will surely take me to Heaven."
The harder a person’s life was, the firmer their faith became, because apart from faith, they had nothing. Nightcrawler was like that.
"God."
Wade scoffed. From the day he entered the orphanage, he had stopped believing in God, because God had never taken care of him.
Psylocke did not believe in God either. She asked, "Enough nonsense. By the way, are you the only mutant prisoner here?"
"I’m the only one, but the guards said that many mutants used to be held here. Later, they all died."
Psylocke and Wade looked at Nightcrawler speechlessly. This kid had a talent for deadpan jokes.
Next, the three headed to the command room. After killing everyone inside, Wade used the surveillance system to search for living people in the base.
After confirming the situation, they found that all the guards in the base had been eliminated. Only Deathstrike, who had gone to the laboratory, remained.
Psylocke said excitedly, "Let’s go to the laboratory too. We can kill that woman right in front of the boss. That way, we can ask for a higher price next time."
"Good idea. You’re really professional."
Wade praised her. Psylocke snorted, looking as if it were only natural. Of course she was professional. How else could she make so much money? In the Old Laboratory, Wang Bert shut off the camera and said to Stryker, "Stryker, even dying ten thousand times would not be enough to repay your sins."
Even under control, Stryker still hated mutants to the core. "I’m not guilty. All mutants deserve to die."
Wang Bert snapped, "What about the ordinary people you killed? There were even more than a dozen children among them."
Stryker had no answer. Wolverine stood up and asked with murderous intent, "Boss, can I kill him now?"
"Not yet. There’s one last question."
Wang Bert asked, "Stryker, how did you transplant so many superpowers into Wade?"
"Trask Industries gave me a special metal. Using that metal as the core, I successfully made Wade fuse with a large number of superpowers."
Stryker answered in a dull voice, "According to the people at Trask Industries, that special metal came from beyond Earth. They also gave me some of Mystique’s blood."
"Mystique’s blood? Trask Industries? Could it be the company that created the Sentinels?"
Wang Bert’s eyes flickered. He asked again, "Why didn’t you ask them for more of that special metal?"
"I did, but Trask Industries refused. That metal is scarce, and they wanted to keep it for themselves. They only gave me one piece to conduct an experiment."
Wang Bert asked, "Where is Trask Industries?"
"Trask Industries’ headquarters are in Manhattan, but I investigated them. Their real base isn’t in America. I don’t know where it is exactly."
Stryker said. If he knew, he would have sent people to seize the special metal long ago.
Is that so? Once the Recycling Company gets on track, I’ll investigate it slowly.
Just then, the sound of fighting came from the entrance. Psylocke and Deathstrike fought their way into the Old Laboratory.
"Stop fighting. You’re on the same side."
Wang Bert shouted. Psylocke looked somewhat surprised and swiftly drew back with her blade. Yuriko also retracted her claws. She turned to Stryker and asked with killing intent, "Can I kill him now?"
"One last step remains."
Wang Bert smiled and took out several Banknotes. "Restore Stryker to normal."
As the Banknotes vanished, Stryker suddenly regained consciousness, his expression slightly dazed.
Wang Bert said to Wolverine and Yuriko, "It’s more interesting to kill him while he’s awake. Logan, Yuriko, stop fighting over it. Torture him together, then kill him once you’ve had your fun."
Wang Bert was not a cruel person, but Stryker deserved to die.
