Plundering Superpowers
The voice that suddenly rang out in his mind did not surprise Richard in the slightest.
While reading the system’s instructions, he had learned that it would provide prompts or voice notifications at certain times.
According to the system’s explanation, whether in battle or practice, using skills would increase their proficiency.
Additionally, using skills consumed mana.
Take the Octaslash he had just performed, for example. Each use of Octaslash consumed 1 point of mana.
It was not just Octaslash. Using the Level 1 skills Earth Shake, Sky Tremor, Zanshin, and Iai Slash also consumed 1 point of mana.
Simply put, his current mana could only support thirty skill uses.
Although using skills consumed mana, it also brought another benefit: it prevented others from copying his skills.
Without mana like his, even if someone perfectly replicated the movements of Octaslash, Sky Tremor, and the like, they could only imitate the motions, not achieve the same power.
Though he had not actually cut anything, Richard’s instincts told him that the Octaslash he could now perform could easily slice through Reinforced Concrete buildings, just like Sephiroth in the movies.
Besides being used to perform skills like Octaslash, mana could also be used for energy attacks or casting magic skills.
However, that was not something he needed to consider just after arriving in this world.
His Template Fusion Degree was only 5%, and he had not awakened any magic skills.
Based on the system’s description, the Sephiroth Template he possessed was roughly the same as Sephiroth from the remake game.
In addition to skills like Octaslash, it also included magic skills such as Great Fire, Great Blizzard, Great Lightning, and Great Gust.
Richard ignored the proficiency increase notifications in his mind and continued practicing Octaslash in the bedroom.
"Octaslash Proficiency +1"
"Octaslash Proficiency +1"
"Octaslash Proficiency +1"
After using Octaslash ten times in a row and raising its proficiency to 10, he reluctantly ended his practice and returned the over-two-meter-long Masamune to the System Space.
After putting away the Masamune, he went to the bathroom.
Silver-white long hair, pale green eyes, a handsome face…
Looking at himself in the mirror, Richard smiled in satisfaction.
Whether you were strong was only a matter of time; whether you were handsome was a matter of a lifetime! Though the original owner had also been quite handsome, with the youthful charm of Lee, his hair had been blond rather than silver.
As for his eye color, it had not changed much. Both were pale green.
However, compared with the original owner, his pupils were now vertical slits, much like a beast’s.
After admiring his current universally appealing looks to his satisfaction, Richard returned to the bedroom, took off his pajamas, and changed into everyday clothes.
After changing, he did not leave the bedroom immediately. Instead, he sat down in a chair and began thinking carefully.
According to the memories left behind by the original owner, the world he had transmigrated into was indeed the Marvel Universe, but it was not purely the MCU or the X-Men Film Universe.
This world had the Avengers, Iron Man, Captain America…
It also had the X-Men, the Brotherhood of Mutants, the Hellfire Club, the Fantastic Four…
Most importantly, the United States in this world had enacted a law called the "Mutant Restriction Act."
The Mutant Restriction Act had two main provisions.
First, all mutants had to register and submit to the unified management of the Department of Mutant Affairs.
Second, aside from mutants granted official permission, all other mutants were strictly forbidden from using their superpowers in public.
Anyone who failed to register, or used superpowers without official permission, would be arrested by Mutant Agents and imprisoned in a special prison for mutants.
The Mutant Restriction Act involuntarily reminded Richard of the Mutant Registration Act from the movies.
However, the Mutant Registration Act in the movies had failed, while the Mutant Restriction Act in this world had been successfully enacted.
The original owner’s father was a mutant who opposed the Mutant Restriction Act, so he had never registered as required by the law.
Not only that, the original owner’s billionaire father had formed an underground mutant organization called Crimson Manor, helping and sheltering mutants who also opposed the Mutant Restriction Act.
The place Richard was currently in was Crimson Manor’s headquarters.
There were now more than fifty mutants living in the manor.
Two days ago, the original owner’s father had left the manor with three mutants to pick up a group of new members in Los Angeles who wanted to join the organization.
However, someone had apparently leaked the news, and the original owner’s father and his group were captured by agents from the Department of Mutant Affairs.
Although he had taken over the original owner’s body, the original owner’s father was no different from a stranger to Richard.
Of course, if his strength allowed it, he would not mind rescuing the original owner’s father as repayment for taking over his body.
However, given the current situation, even if he wanted to repay the original owner’s father, he could not do so anytime soon.
He had no idea where the original owner’s father was being held.
More importantly, he did not have the strength to rescue him at all.
Repayment was one thing, but he would not risk his own life for it.
After reviewing the original owner’s memories and understanding the situation, he opened the Attribute Panel and looked at the X-Gene Superpower section.
When he focused his attention on the word Plunder, the system immediately provided the corresponding description.
Plunder: Plunder the superpowers of those personally killed. Can evolve. Current level: Beta-level
PS: Cannot plunder superpowers above one’s own level.
The system’s explanation was brief, only two sentences, but it was enough for him to understand the original owner’s superpower.
At the same time, he understood why the original owner’s father and the others had believed that the original owner had never awakened a superpower.
Plunder the superpowers of those personally killed!
The original owner had never killed anyone, so Plunder had never had a chance to reveal itself.
Although the system did not explicitly explain how Plunder could be upgraded, Richard had already guessed what he needed to do.
Plunder other people’s superpowers! Once he had plundered enough superpowers, Plunder could advance from Beta-level to Alpha-level.
There were five levels of mutants in this world.
The official classification ran from Level One to Level Five.
The classification previously promoted by Professor X and Magneto, however, was Epsilon Level, Delta Level, Beta-level, Alpha-level, and Omega-level, which represented the ultimate and the infinite.
Though both systems had five levels, most mutants preferred the classification introduced by Professor X and Magneto, using Gamma Level, Beta-level, and Alpha-level to describe the levels of their superpowers.
There were two reasons for this. On one hand, most mutants disliked the Mutant Restriction Act and therefore also disliked the official classification.
On the other hand, Beta-level, Alpha-level, and Omega-level sounded better than Level Three, Level Four, and Level Five.
Though there were level classifications, level did not completely equate to combat power.
After all, not every superpower was suited for combat.
After closing the Attribute Panel, Richard recalled the conversations he had heard before waking up.
Though he could not identify who those people were, there was one thing he was certain of: they were preparing to drive him away.
His father had just been captured, and they already wanted to kick him out! These people really knew how to "repay kindness"!
Richard had just been wondering where he could go to plunder his first superpower.
Now, he had a target!
If those people whom the original owner’s father had sheltered really were that ungrateful, then they could not blame him, the man occupying the original owner’s body, for being ruthless!…
