Can I Take This Humiliation?
Without any hesitation, Richard got up and left the bedroom, heading for the study not far away.
Before he reached the study door, it opened, and a group of men of varying ages emerged from inside.
The moment he saw them, having absorbed the original owner’s memories, he recognized every one of them.
Marek, Beverly, Noel, Luther, McCaw! At Crimson Manor, the five of them were all part of the organization’s management.
Or rather, aside from the original owner’s father, the five of them each managed different affairs for the organization.
Marek and Beverly were responsible for the organization’s finances.
Noel and Luther were responsible for training the organization’s newcomers.
As for McCaw, he was responsible for the organization’s logistics.
When they saw Richard walking toward the study, Marek and the others all wore surprised expressions.
His hair?
Had he awakened a superpower? Richard’s hair length and style were no different from the original owner’s.
But its color was no longer blond. It was silver.
Staring at Richard’s silver hair, Marek and the others immediately came to the same conclusion.
While dyeing it could also change its color, they did not believe Richard had secretly left the manor last night to get his hair dyed in the nearby town.
If it was not dyed, then awakening a superpower was the only explanation left.
Though he did not know what level of superpower Richard had awakened, Marek, a Black man walking at the front, did not hesitate. He immediately approached Richard and asked kindly, "Richard, did you awaken a superpower?"
"What kind of superpower did you awaken?"
"Would it be convenient for you to demonstrate it for everyone?"
If it had been the original owner, he would definitely have answered Marek’s questions one by one.
But unfortunately, Richard was not the original owner.
"What power I awakened can wait."
"While I was sleeping just now, I seemed to hear you discussing something in the study."
"Were you discussing how to rescue my father?"
"Or were you discussing how the organization should develop from here on?"
Rather than answering Marek’s questions, Richard directly questioned him instead.
Although he knew they had been discussing whether to send him away, he had not heard their final decision.
Before openly turning against them, he felt it was necessary to confirm it once more.
Upon hearing his words, Marek’s previously kind expression immediately changed and became incomparably serious.
"You heard it all?"
Marek asked.
"Not much. I only heard that you planned to vote on whether to send me away."
Richard looked calmly at Marek.
After speaking, he also swept his gaze over Luther and the others behind Marek.
When had his hearing become so sharp?
Had he awakened a Heightened Five Senses-type superpower? Marek did not immediately answer Richard’s question, instead frowning as he thought for a moment.
A few seconds later, he said, "Since you heard it, we won’t hide it from you."
"Yes, we were indeed voting on whether to send you away."
"Your father has been arrested, and your identity as a mutant has definitely been exposed as well."
Marek paused there.
He had assumed Richard would be furious upon hearing this.
Yet to his surprise, Richard did not look angry at all. He was perfectly calm, as though the person about to be sent away was not him.
Although he noticed that Richard was somewhat different from before, he did not think much of it and continued, "We made the decision by vote to send you away for a while."
"Don’t worry, we won’t make you leave penniless. We’ll give you a vehicle, and we’ll also give you thirty thousand… ten thousand dollars."
"Once we confirm that Mutant Agents are not watching you, we’ll bring you back."
Ten thousand dollars? You really were generous!
Richard had been wondering whether personally destroying the organization his father’s original owner had built would be going too far.
After all, Crimson Manor was his father’s life’s work.
Now, he felt that he had overthought things.
"A vehicle and ten thousand dollars?"
"My father was just arrested, and this is how you treat me? You really are loyal and righteous!"
"Have you forgotten that when you had nowhere else to go, my father took you in and brought you here?"
"Don’t you feel guilty doing this?"
Richard asked Marek and the others.
If Marek had merely felt that Richard was somewhat different before, then now, he felt as though Richard had become an entirely different person.
The former Richard had been timid and insecure because he had not awakened a superpower.
But now, Marek saw neither timidity nor insecurity in him. Instead, he sensed a forcefulness he had never felt from Richard before.
"We’re doing this to ensure the organization survives. If your father were still here, he would also…"
Before Marek could finish, Richard interrupted him, ready to carry out the plan he had already made.
Since you all want to die, I’ll grant your wish.
"There’s no need for empty pleasantries. You want me gone, right? Fine. Give me the vehicle and the money, and I’ll leave immediately."
What? Neither Marek nor Luther and the others had expected Richard to accept this so quickly.
Though somewhat surprised, Marek immediately said, "All right, we’ll get you the vehicle and money right away."
A few minutes later, in the parking lot in front of the manor’s main building, Richard received the ten thousand dollars and an ordinary Ford Pickup Truck prepared by Marek and the others.
After opening the envelope and taking a look, he got into the truck without hesitation.
Then, he started it and drove away without another word.
Under Marek and the others’ watchful eyes, he quickly disappeared around the bend in the road.
"He isn’t going to call the police, is he?" McCaw said with a frown.
"If he goes to the police, he’ll be the first one to suffer."
Marek immediately replied.
"I still think there’s something off about him today. Should we have someone follow him?" Luther looked at Marek.
"Send someone after him. If he really goes to the police, we can stop him beforehand."
Beverly’s voice rang out.
Though he felt it was unnecessary, seeing that Beverly and the others were worried, Marek said, "Have Ross and Shane follow him."
"Okay, I’ll notify Ross and Shane right away." Luther nodded.
With that, he headed toward the manor’s main building, intending to have Ross and Shane follow Richard.
After driving for more than ten minutes, Richard arrived at the town closest to the manor.
Without hesitation, he drove straight to the town’s gas station.
After parking the truck, he walked over to an attendant and took out two thousand dollars from the envelope.
"Give me 200 gallons of gasoline."
Gas stations in the United States used gallons as their unit of measurement. One gallon was roughly equivalent to 3.78 liters.
Additionally, gas stations in the United States allowed customers to purchase gasoline in bulk.
The prerequisite was having fuel containers.
Otherwise, buying gasoline in bulk was illegal.
Richard did not have any fuel containers, but that was not a problem.
Gasoline in the United States was cheap. A gallon only cost around five dollars.
Two thousand dollars for 200 gallons of gasoline was more than enough to make the gas station attendant prepare the fuel containers he needed.
Though curious about why Richard needed so much gasoline, the attendant accepted the cash with a broad smile. "Of course, sir!"
Within minutes, the bed of the Ford Pickup Truck contained more than a dozen portable fuel containers.
After buying the gasoline he needed, Richard immediately drove the Ford Pickup Truck back to the manor.
You want to take over the manor and the organization? I’d rather burn it all down than give it to you! Can I take this humiliation?
I’m a transmigrator!
