Protecting the Whole World

A struggle for the throne?

Egghead was slightly taken aback. "You mean aliens, not gods?"

Well, well. Director Wang, your political awareness is pretty high!

He was currently in the Security Council office, with projections of five council members before him.

Everyone listened in silence.

After hearing Old Wang’s account, the five big shots of the Security Council looked at one another.

What?

Aliens had come again?

And according to Director Wang, these Asgardians were even more formidable than the Skrulls and Kree who had come before. That terrifying storm had been created by a single hammer?

They did not seem much weaker than Captain Marvel.

What… what were they supposed to do now?

The atmosphere instantly became a little awkward.

"Aren’t Americans supposed to believe in only one god? Your religion is monotheistic. You consider the gods of Norse Mythology to be gods too?"

Old Wang smiled, his voice coming through the phone. "They don’t even consider themselves gods. Asgardians only live for five thousand years. Does that count as being a god?"

If a five-thousand-year lifespan counted as godhood, then wouldn’t those Night Elves who had lived for over ten thousand years all be gods among gods?

In World of Warcraft, the Wild Gods, who were nearly impossible to kill, barely counted as demigods.

And in the Marvel World, even Thanos was only called a "demigod."

The deities worshipped by backward civilizations were nothing at all. Whether it was Shenlong Shou Lao, Thor, or even Odin, the Allfather, none of them were true gods.

True gods did not exist in the world of ordinary people. They stood above individual universes.

Beyond time and space, eternal and undying.

Mortals did not even have the right to know of them.

The council member from his homeland twitched at the corner of his mouth.

Chinese civilization was only five thousand years old too, all right? Brother, that was a bit much.

But when he looked at the other four council members beside him, his mood instantly improved.

Britain and France next door were better off, at least they had some foundation.

Russia across from them also had a fairly long civilizational heritage.

But the United States next door to next door?

Setting aside the early Native American civilizations, its history was only a little over two hundred years…

Our civilization could at least outlast an Asgardian.

To you, your civilization probably did not even count as their childhood!

"All right, I understand what you mean."

Egghead fell silent for a minute as he digested Old Wang’s words, then continued, "The problem now is that Thor’s Hammer and Thor are both on Earth. So whether it’s Thor’s supporters or his rival Loki, they’ll all come to Earth looking for him. And if this isn’t handled properly, it could trigger a war?"

"Perfect listening comprehension, perfect reading comprehension." Teacher Wang nodded.

"Does Thor count as entering the country without permission?" the newly appointed American council member suddenly asked.

The moment he said that, everyone else’s expressions and gazes became strange. They looked at the council member as though they were looking at an idiot.

Even Egghead, an American himself, was embarrassed enough to want to crawl into a crack in the ground. His old face was darker than ever.

Buddy, had the president sent you here to be a comedian?

After silently mocking the American council member, Egghead looked at Old Wang.

It was certainly inappropriate for the United States to declare sovereignty over Earth.

But if the United Nations stepped forward and deemed Thor’s arrival unauthorized, that should make sense, right?

Even if they did not take any action, they could still issue stern condemnation and protest, right?

Old Wang shrugged. "Sorry, but according to the Asgardians, the entire Nine Realms belong to Asgard. He didn’t enter illegally. At most, he crossed provincial borders for a trip. And he’s a prince traveling, at that. We should give him a warm reception, listen to Prince’s instructions, and show sufficient honor."

Egghead understood.

Wasn’t that the usual way their own country did things? Now the Asgardians were using it on them. Serves them right.

After thinking for a moment, he said, "I want to know about Asgard’s military capabilities, land area, human geography, technological development, and so on. I also want to know Asgard’s attitude, especially Odin’s."

Old Wang snorted. "Just say you want to capture Thor and Thor’s Hammer for research, then see whether you can invade Asgard or other realms while you’re at it! Let me tell you directly: that’s impossible."

"Why?" Egghead frowned.

This was not his demand. It was the president’s demand, the Security Council’s demand, and the demand of leaders from every country in the world.

It was fine to harbor harmful intentions, but one could not let down one’s guard.

They did not necessarily have to invade, but they first had to understand the other side’s basic circumstances, assess the strength of both sides, and then determine what to do next:

Capture Thor and Thor’s Hammer for research, invade other realms to solve the energy crisis, environmental pollution, population density, and other problems, cooperate with other realms, or immediately take defensive measures against a possible invasion.

That was how politicians thought. What the hell did you know, Director Wang!

The council members listened intently.

Director Wang was an honest man who never lied. If he said that, there had to be a reason.

Could Asgard really be that powerful?

Old Wang said blandly, "Because the physique of any random Asgardian stonemason, carpenter, or old lady is roughly comparable to Captain Rogers. They have ton-level strength, can casually flip over a heavy motorcycle, and have bulletproof skin that ordinary handguns can’t penetrate."

Egghead: "…"

The council members: "…"

Were they really that strong? Director Wang, did you think I was scared that easily?

Director Wang had just said that although Asgard was not large and had a sparse population, the exact numbers were unclear. But there were definitely more than a million people.

A million Captain Americas?

Th-That was terrifying!

Old Wang continued, "Because once Thor awakens, he’ll be equivalent to a humanoid nuclear bomb—and one that can be reused infinitely. No weapon on Earth can kill him… I suspect even nuclear bombs can’t. The key is that you can’t hit him."

Egghead: "…"

The council members: "…"

They understood what he meant. Earthlings could not stop Thor?

If that guy went berserk, they could only passively take the beating?

That made sense.

A single hammer of his could summon storm winds and lightning capable of destroying everything. The real owner had to be even stronger. More importantly, he could fly, and he flew pretty fast. They could not even catch up to him.

Old Wang added, "Because all it takes is one Loki coming to Earth to easily trigger World War III… He is the God of Mischief, proficient in illusions, and his personal strength isn’t bad either. He’s only slightly weaker than Thor."

Egghead: "…"

The council members: "…"

In Norse Mythology, Ragnarok had been caused by Loki. He was the chief culprit.

If the myths were not too far from the truth, humanity might truly be unable to outplay Loki.

It could even be said with certainty that, to Earth, Loki was far more terrifying than Thor.

Human civilization might not collapse because of an external enemy, but what if it was a war within humanity itself?

It would not even take much effort.

Loki could directly control the leaders of various nations. All it would take was launching a single nuclear bomb to set off a chain reaction, trigger World War III, completely destroy the current system of civilization, and send the whole world back overnight to the era of the First Industrial Revolution.

At the thought of this, the council members felt chills run through their hearts and could no longer sit still.

We worked so hard to reach our current positions and gained influence across the entire world.

And now you’re telling us someone can casually destroy all of it? Did it have to be this terrifying?

Old Wang continued, "Because if you anger Odin, all he has to do is throw Gungnir at Earth, and it can pierce through the entire planet and destroy its core. Or he can aim the Bifrost at Earth and blast it directly into fragments. Or he can simply detonate the sun… Believe me, that wouldn’t be too difficult."

Egghead: "…"

The council members: "…"

They were completely speechless, not knowing what to say.

The gap was that huge?

How had Earth not been destroyed already? This made no sense!

"Earth has its own foundation. Earth has its own protectors."

After a string of blows, Old Wang finally got to the point:

"This is why the Shengun Bureau was established, and this is its purpose."

"Gentlemen, we are protecting the whole world."
