Selling Your Soul to the Devil Was Not Tragic; What Was Truly Tragic Was Failing to Sell It for the Right Price

"Ah!"

Just as Yun Chuan dealt with those people, a roar came from the city gate.

Yahiko instinctively looked up, and his dull eyes suddenly trembled.

It was the frail girl who had wanted to sell herself.

She had likely been starving for so long that everything she saw was blurred into double images.

Yet even though she no longer had the strength to stand, she still crawled forward with all her might, clutching the man’s ankle tightly as she screamed hoarsely, "Give it back!"

"Let go!"

One of the man’s feet had been grabbed, while he clutched two loaves of bread tightly against his chest.

He lifted his other foot and kicked the girl wildly, shouting, "Get the hell away from me, brat!!"

The girl bit her lips until they bled, yet she raised her head and glared at him fiercely, her little face twisted with ferocity.

"Damn it!"

The man felt a chill under her gaze and instinctively glanced at the distant samurai headman.

Seeing his indifferent, cold expression, the hesitation in his heart immediately turned to malice.

"Get lost!" A terrifying chill appeared on his face. He stopped kicking at the girl’s arms and back, instead raising his foot to stomp on her head mercilessly, as though crushing an ant.

Just as the samurai leader frowned and placed a hand on his sword hilt.

"Don’t bully my sister!"

The frightened, trembling little boy behind them saw this and suddenly pounced forward, viciously biting the leg the man was standing on.

"Ah!!" The man cried out in pain from the bite. Losing his balance, he fell backward and hit the ground so hard that his head spun.

"Hahahaha!"

Watching this utterly comical scene, the surrounding people burst into unpleasant, piercing laughter.

Even the Rain Shinobi watching coldly from the side could not help but smile, as though he were enjoying an amusing monkey show.

The samurai headman beside him quietly withdrew his hand from the sword hilt as well.

Of course, he had not intended to save the girl out of pity. He simply did not want Lord Daimyo to lose a maid.

For a samurai like him, a samurai’s honor stood above all else.

Protecting the interests of the nobility was a samurai’s honor.

But in the next moment, the samurai headman’s brows beneath his faceplate furrowed again.

Because the frail girl did not take the opportunity to snatch the bread. Instead, before the man could react, she crawled onto him with both hands.

Then, amid harsh, mocking laughter, she bit down on his filthy throat.

"Ah!!"

A shrill scream tore from the man’s throat. This time, he finally felt fear and struggled wildly, shouting as he tried to push the girl away.

The people who had been laughing were like ducks with their necks pinched, staring in stunned silence as the scene developed in a direction none of them had expected.

"Hah, hah!"

The girl clung to the man and refused to let go, savagely biting him as he let out even more miserable, pig-slaughtering screams.

She bit through his windpipe. She bit through his artery.

The wound on his neck grew increasingly gruesome, while his body became weaker and weaker.

Blood pooled across the ground, and the man’s struggles gradually weakened.

At last, he stopped moving altogether. His bloodshot eyes remained wide open, as though he could not believe that a girl had bitten him to death alive.

"Ptooey!"

The girl raised her blood-covered face and spat out a mouthful of blood in disgust.

Then she gathered the five loaves into her arms, looked at the people standing frozen in place, and laughed madly. The savagery had not yet faded from her eyes. "Hahaha!"

With that terrifyingly vicious appearance, she looked nothing like a little girl. She was more like a… wild dog.

"Enough!"

The samurai headman suddenly bellowed. His gaze toward the girl was icy as he said, "This farce is over. Now, come back with me."

He had already made up his mind.

This dangerous little brat had to be properly trained.

As for whether Lord Daimyo would keep her as a maid, or use her as a plaything for a few days before throwing her out, that would depend on Lord Daimyo’s choice.

As if she had seen through the samurai headman’s thoughts, the girl’s crazed smile gradually faded, and her expression returned to the numbness from before.

She shoved the five blood-soaked loaves into her brother’s arms, then tore off a piece and forcibly stuffed it into his mouth. Cutting off the words he had yet to say, she murmured with a smile, "This is the last thing I can do!"

With that, she turned and walked toward the samurai headman.

But just as she was about to take a step, a voice suddenly came from behind her.

"Selling your soul to the devil is not tragic. What is truly tragic is failing to sell it for the right price."

Suddenly, the samurai headman heard the sound of wind rushing toward him. In the corner of his eye, a broken short sword appeared!

Decades of swordsmanship training allowed him to make an almost instinctive judgment in an instant.

That ghostly short blade had originally been aimed at the left side of his neck, but he twisted his arm and rolled sideways, forcibly drawing his sword and raising it to block.

Clang!!

Blinding sparks burst between the blades, accompanied by a sharp, ear-piercing clash of metal.

The mountain-heavy diagonal slash made the samurai headman’s expression change. He had to drop to one knee in a sorry state before barely dispersing the remaining force.

Only then did the samurai headman clearly see the person who had "ambushed" him.

It was a boy absurdly young, with a gentle smile still on his face.

"You damned brat…" That smile could not help but irritate the samurai headman.

"Ah." Before he could finish, Yun Chuan interrupted him with a smile. "It’s going to break."

Crack, crack, crack! Crack!

As soon as the words fell, the already extremely damaged short blade let out a mournful cry under the strain, its edge shattering into countless fragments that scattered through the air.

"What an opportunity!"

Seeing this, a cold gleam flashed in the samurai headman’s eyes. Without pausing, he swung his longsword toward Yun Chuan’s head.

At the same time, the other samurai finally reacted and instantly drew their swords, slashing toward Yun Chuan’s head as well.

Several longswords cut through the air with piercing whistles!

Whoosh!!

Stone chips exploded from the cracked ground as his motionless body suddenly burst into action.

Seven Nights Assassination Art: Flash Step: One Deer!

Yun Chuan’s figure vanished from before their eyes in an instant.

The samurai continued staring at the empty spot, their swinging blades still aimed where Yun Chuan had been standing moments ago.

Only the samurai headman, whose sword had swung upward, saw the figure in the air—as well as the shattered short-blade fragments scattered by his own strike before him…

In the next moment, Yun Chuan’s hands snapped like whips.

Two blade fragments vanished, followed by sharp sonic booms!

"Ah!!"

The samurai headman threw back his head and screamed in utter agony. Red-and-white fluid sprayed from the eye slits of his helmet!

The samurai beside him had no time to be stunned. His pupils reflected the fist swinging toward him, and at that moment, only one thought remained in his mind:

Could that weak-looking, fair, tender fist possibly hurt him while he wore armor?

Impossible. This guy… was crazy?

The instant that thought arose.

Yun Chuan’s fist slammed into the samurai’s faceplate.

Crack!!

A strange sound rang out, and the samurai’s vision suddenly went dark.

His neck bent at a horrifying ninety-degree angle, and his head instantly slammed backward into his back!

"Tch, should I say this armor really does deserve its reputation for resisting some ninjutsu?"

Yun Chuan glanced at the two- to three-centimeter wound healing on the back of his hand, clicked his tongue, and muttered, "Without advancing, this tin can is pretty troublesome."
