Silver Dragon Jade Pendant, World Outside the Circle
"Don’t be fooled by the fact that I looked to be only around twenty. I was actually already over six hundred years old," Su Yu replied with a smile.
Dongfang Huaizhu’s pupils contracted, but she quickly composed herself. "Could you be a demon, Senior?"
Su Yu shook his head. "No. I was merely someone who could live a little longer than most."
"How could a human live that long? Liar!" Dongfang Qinlan muttered.
However, both Dongfang Huaizhu and Su Yu heard her clearly. Dongfang Huaizhu hurriedly said, "Please do not blame Qinlan, Senior."
Su Yu waved his hand with a smile. "Would I really fuss with a little girl? Take these. I consider us fated. If you encounter an obstacle you cannot overcome in the future, shatter one of these, and I will appear to help you."
As he spoke, Su Yu tossed two jade pendants to Dongfang Huaizhu and Dongfang Qinlan. The pendants were exquisitely made, with the words "Silver Dragon" engraved upon them.
Dongfang Huaizhu cupped her hands in thanks. "Thank you, Senior."
Su Yu smiled. "No need to thank me. Did you come to see me for something? Go on."
After thinking for a moment, Dongfang Huaizhu said, "Senior, I wanted to ask why the music you played had such special effects."
Su Yu thought for a moment, then stroked the Taigu Yiyin Qin. "It was a form of spiritual magic. It did not rely on the qin itself, but on one’s spiritual power and superb musical skill. Even with a teacher, an ordinary person could not use it without decades of accumulated practice, much less without anyone to teach them. What, did you want to learn?"
Dongfang Huaizhu smiled and shook her head. "No, I was not interested in such things. I was merely curious."
"Oh, then if you have nothing else to do, return to your rooms. It would not be appropriate for a young woman like you to remain here with me for too long in the middle of the night," Su Yu said.
Dongfang Huaizhu gave a slight bow. After bidding Su Yu farewell, she left with Dongfang Qinlan.
After leaving Su Yu’s room, Dongfang Huaizhu tapped Dongfang Qinlan on the forehead. "You! You dared to say anything at all! If this Senior had not been so good-tempered, I would not even know how this could have ended."
Looking as though she had done something wrong, Dongfang Qinlan stuck out her little tongue.
After an unknown amount of time had passed, the three people downstairs immediately sensed that something extra had appeared around them. Upstairs, Dongfang Huaizhu also relaxed and promptly brought Dongfang Qinlan downstairs.
Downstairs, the swordsman among the three immediately slashed outward, and a streak of sword light shot forth.
Outside the inn, several spiders crawled out and were swiftly cut down with a single strike.
After the spiders were slain, purple gas rose from their bodies. Everyone immediately recognized it as poisonous gas, and the three quickly left the inn for the street.
Dongfang Huaizhu and Dongfang Qinlan also came out. The fire user immediately released flames to burn the corpses, but poisonous gas still rose from them even after they were burned.
Ximen Chuisha immediately cast a spell, intending to blow open a path. Unlike in the original story, he did not dare blow the poisonous gas in every direction. After all, Su Yu was still inside the inn. Better not provoke him if they could avoid it.
Ximen Chuisha waved the feather fan in his hand, and the poisonous gas was immediately blown aside. The five quickly ran out.
But just as they escaped the poisonous gas, a demon with figure-eight-shaped eyes on its face suddenly appeared. Without another word, it attacked the five. Everyone except Dongfang Huaizhu was swiftly captured, while Dongfang Huaizhu was blown away.
Su Yu knew that Poison Teacher was not particularly evil, so he did not intervene. Besides, if he acted, who knew whether Dongfang Huaizhu would still be able to meet Wangquan Baye?
After Poison Teacher left, Su Yu finally emerged from his room. Looking at the wreckage covering the street, he gave a bitter smile before turning and leaving.
Su Yu had come to this inn only to befriend Dongfang Huaizhu in advance. Now that he had done so, it was time to leave. His trip was not solely for Dongfang Huaizhu and Wangquan Baye; more than anything, he wanted to explore the world of Fox Spirit Matchmaker.
Of all the places in the world of Fox Spirit Matchmaker, Su Yu was most interested in Aolai Country and the World Outside the Circle. Though the World Outside the Circle was said to be terrifying, Su Yu did not care in the slightest.
After giving it some thought, Su Yu decided to take a look at the World Outside the Circle. From what he knew, the world beyond should be far larger than Circle Within.
That day, Su Yu arrived at the border, where several Yellow Robe Taoists riding flying swords appeared. An old man led them. Seeing Su Yu approach on foot, the old man said, "Young man, this is not a place you should come to. Go back quickly."
Hearing that, Su Yu smiled. "It had been a long time since anyone had called me young man. Do you know how old I was today?"
The old man was speechless. No matter how old you were, you only looked twenty or thirty. I was already in my seventies.
"Why say so much? I wanted to go out. Please make things convenient for me," Su Yu said with a smile, shaking his head.
The old man chuckled. "Why did you want to go to the World Outside the Circle? Since we were stationed here, you should know that we would not let you pass."
With a light wave of his right hand, Su Yu swept away the dust and sand on the ground. He sat cross-legged, and the ring on his finger transformed into the Taigu Yiyin Qin. Placing both hands upon the qin, he looked at the people in the sky and said, "Do you know that talking with my head raised was rather tiring?"
Everyone looked bewildered. What did that mean?
Then Su Yu ran his fingers over the strings. As he played, he said, "A piece of Wild Geese Descending on the Sandbank… for you all."
Clang, clang, clang, clang-clang-clang-clang…
Their flying swords suddenly malfunctioned, and the old man felt a powerful force forcibly drag him down.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Everyone was thrown down so hard that they became dizzy and disoriented. By the time the old man climbed back up, Su Yu had already vanished from where he had been.
Su Yu stood atop the Taigu Yiyin Qin, using it as a flying artifact as he soared into the sky. Smiling, he waved and said, "Rest assured, everyone. The flight restriction will only last for a quarter of an hour. If there is nothing else, I will be going now."
With that, Su Yu flew straight over the city wall and entered the World Outside the Circle.
The World Outside the Circle was filled with bizarre creatures. Black Foxes were merely one kind. Because their territory was not far from the border, Black Foxes were the first creatures to invade Circle Within.
According to Su Yu’s own calculations, there were no humans outside the Circle, only demons—every kind imaginable. There were ten thousand races in total. It felt like a weakened version of the Prehistoric Times, with countless demons roaming freely.
Su Yu put on the Masks from before and slung the Taigu Yiyin Qin across his back instead of turning it into a ring.
Su Yu walked onward. Before long, he saw a group of Black Foxes gathered together, discussing how to infiltrate Circle Within.
Su Yu walked directly over to them and said, "Why were you discussing this so much? Why not gather all the demons outside the Circle and simply charge in?"
"Shut up! Don’t you know the ten thousand races had always been on bad terms? Besides, those powerful races were not interested in Circle Within at all. They were only interested in the even broader world beyond!" a Black Fox minor leader shouted.
