#407
The Ancient Gods Descend
"Hela, you lost."
Chthon’s voice rang out in Hela’s mind. Though Hela was unwilling to admit it, she knew she truly had lost.
Earth’s strength had far exceeded Hela’s expectations. That pack of beasts could even create Ancient God-level powerhouses.
After hesitating for a moment, Hela decisively said, "Chthon, I know you want to enter the Main Universe, but you must agree to several conditions."
With a faint smile, Chthon said, "Go ahead."
"First, you may only kill half the life in the universe. Once you’re done, you must leave the Main Universe immediately. As for the souls, handle them yourselves. This time, I won’t fight over them."
Hela knew perfectly well that the Ancient Gods would never give her the souls. Rather than make things ugly later, she might as well be generous now. She continued, "You must swear by Death. If you break your oath, Death will come for you."
"Fine."
The four Ancient Gods nodded in agreement at the same time. A cold glint flashed through Chthon’s eyes. Before long, even Death would submit beneath His feet.
Hela continued, "Second, you cannot attack the Nine Realms."
"I didn’t expect the Goddess of Death to care so much about Asgard. I thought you hated Odin and Asgard to the bone, just like the Great Serpent."
Chthon smiled. "Agreed."
"Third, you may only seal and suppress the Blood God’s disciples. You cannot kill them."
Hela said, "They’re my fellow disciples—senior sisters, that is. Uh, Thor is included as well. He may be useless, but he is still part of Odin’s royal family."
"No problem."
The Four Ancient Gods agreed again. To them, entering the Main Universe was what mattered most. Everything else could wait.
"Fine. I’ll let you enter the Main Universe."
Hela took a deep breath and pointed the Night Sky Sword at the sky. Countless souls surged from the sword, rapidly forming a Soul Altar in the air.
"Stop her! She’s summoning the Ancient Gods!"
Little Hela was horrified. She hurriedly shouted, "Hela, you can’t control the Ancient Gods! If you let Them in, the universe will be devastated!"
Everyone was alarmed and rushed toward Hela. At that moment, a soul barrier rose and blocked their way.
Unlike last time, this soul barrier was formed from millions of souls. Even the Super Heroes could not break through it.
"I made a contract with Them. They can’t violate it. Besides, Death is behind me."
Hela shouted stubbornly. Chthon smiled faintly. His previous plan had succeeded. Hela had clearly underestimated Them.
Looking at it this way, losing the battle with Their projections earlier had not been a bad thing.
"Damn it, Asgardians are all idiots—each one stupider and more arrogant than the last."
Little Hela cursed as she used the Light Magic she had developed last time to purify the souls on the barrier.
Tony and the others were delighted at first, then sighed. Little Hela could indeed purify souls, but she was far too slow. Purifying these millions of souls would take at least an hour or two. By then, it would be far too late.
"We Asgardians are gods. What’s wrong with being arrogant? Hela, you were born on Earth. You have no idea how glorious we are."
Hela roared. The greatest difference between her and Little Hela was that one considered herself divine, while the other, influenced by Wang Bert, had always regarded herself as human.
Hela had fallen for Chthon’s trick so easily because she was too proud. She believed no one could deceive her. Unfortunately, she did not know that in the eyes of Ancient Gods like Chthon, these so-called gods were no different from ants.
At that moment, five figures suddenly appeared outside the Domain of Death: Satan Adam, Explosion Doctor Doom, Sorcerer Supreme Strange, Invisible Woman Susan, and Bald Wang Bert.
After resolving Earth’s troubles, they had rushed over to help.
Seeing that the Ancient Gods had not yet emerged, Wang Bert smiled. "Looks like we made it in time."
Strange and Doctor Doom did not reply, because they were staring at the battle between Spider-Man and Deadpool in utter shock.
"They’re all temporal counterparts. How is that possible?"
Strange shouted in disbelief, "Why haven’t they suffered temporal backlash? Time isn’t that kind."
Doctor Doom also asked in shock, "Who is that avocado? And why has Spider-Man become so strong? He can actually travel through time at will?"
"That kidney-deficient mage over there, Time may be an inviolable goddess to you, but to me, She’s just a… I can do this to her, and that to her, in any position I want."
Deadpool said smugly. Spider-Man kicked him away and cursed, "No dirty jokes! Too many dirty jokes are bad for children."
"I’ll beat you to death, you PG-rated loser! I’m an R-rated legend! Before that clown was born, my box office was the highest among R-rated movies!"
Deadpool pounced on Spider-Man, and the two soon began wrestling.
Strange and Doctor Doom were speechless, as if they were watching some absurdist film.
Wang Bert looked up at the nearly completed Soul Altar and said to Hela, "Hela, it’s not too late to turn back."
"Master, I can’t turn back, and I don’t want to."
Hela shook her head. "I became Death’s Sub-God not only because I wanted to rise again, but because I agree with Death’s beliefs. This universe needs balance."
"This universe does need balance, but your methods are wrong. Your method and Death’s method cannot bring balance. They will only bring destruction."
Wang Bert shook his head. If Death and Hela truly succeeded, there would be only one ending: scientists across the Entire Universe would conduct frenzied experiments and destroy the Five Creator Gods along with the universe.
That was not impossible. Earth’s scientists had already managed to create Ancient Gods. If Dr. Octopus advanced her research a little further and several universes merged, everything would turn to ash.
Wang Bert did not try to persuade her further. After some thought, he summoned Steve, Carter, Human Torch, Bucky, and the other Super Heroes who had yet to reach god-level.
Then Wang Bert handed them eight Fear Hammers and said, "These are Fear Hammers. They can grant you god-level power, but they contain Satan’s evil power. If you take them, you may become bad people."
The Great Serpent was not dead yet. The only way to control the Fear Hammers was through the Evil Concept.
After thinking for a moment, Steve asked, "Is Satan one of us? Can He be trusted?"
Wang Bert nodded. "Yes. He is absolutely one of us."
"Then there’s no problem. I may have been Director for a few years, but I prefer the Frontlines."
Steve smiled and took a hammer. His aura suddenly surged. He felt both comfortable and uneasy, because the power was filled with evil and fear.
Seeing this, the others picked up hammers as well. Their auras immediately changed. Human Torch, whose will was less resolute, flickered his gaze and turned to eye Carter’s curvaceous body lecherously.
"Steve, your illegitimate son is checking out your wife. Wow, your circle is really messed up."
Thing tattled on him. Honest by nature, he had not been affected much, though he had become a little petty.
Everyone turned to Human Torch. Annoyed, he raised his hammer to smash Thing, but Wang Bert waved a hand and sent him flying. "Save your energy. The final battle is about to begin."
Everyone looked toward the Soul Altar and discovered that it had fully formed.
"Go."
A trace of hesitation flashed through Hela’s eyes before turning into resolve. Then, she sent tens of millions of souls into the Altar. The sacrificial runes on the Altar lit up with dazzling light, and four enormous space gates appeared in the sky.
Before the Ancient Gods even emerged, cold, evil, chaotic auras blanketed the surroundings. Everyone felt a chill in their hearts, but no one was afraid. Instead, they tightened their grips on their weapons and prepared to fight. Earthlings would never submit.
"Wow, the Ancient Gods are coming."
Deadpool’s eyes rolled. He angrily said to Spider-Man, "It’s all your fault! If you hadn’t stopped me, the Ancient Gods would never have had the chance to appear. Spider-Man, you’re a bad kid. You destroyed the universe."
"Wade, are you really going to watch the universe perish?"
Spider-Man sighed. "Why can’t we be like before? Why can’t we deal with enemies together and protect Earth?"
Deadpool said, "You may be my best bro, but Death is more important. For Her, I’m more than willing to stab you a few times. At worst, I’ll give you a few stabs afterward as compensation."
"You’ll lose popularity acting like this. Simps never die well."
Spider-Man snorted. Now, they could only hope the Blood God would turn the tide. Fortunately, the Blood God had never disappointed anyone.
At that moment, four majestic figures slowly emerged from the space gates. They were Chthon, shrouded in black mist; Shuma-Gorath, the Eye Demon with a single eyeball and countless tentacles; the multi-headed serpent Seth; and the scantily clad Astros! It was worth noting that, apart from Astros, the other three were all enormous and possessed extraordinary auras. The moment they appeared, even the void became unstable.
The void could not bear the true forms of these Ancient Gods.
"The Main Universe. I’ve finally entered it."
Chthon wore an intoxicated expression. After waiting so many years, He had finally entered the Main Universe. The position of Creator God was already beckoning to Him.
Seth, Shuma-Gorath, and Astros were equally excited. They had wanted to enter the Main Universe for a very, very long time.
That was not all. Next, over a hundred Demon Gods in their true forms emerged from the four portals. Their faces were filled with excitement. After striving for so long, the time had finally come to reap their harvest.
The souls of the Main Universe were delicious.
Bald Wang Bert snorted. "Chthon, you’ve got some nerve. You actually dared to enter the Main Universe in your true form. Aren’t you afraid of dying here?"
"Unless a Creator God acts, who can kill me?"
Chthon said disdainfully. Eye Demon glanced at the Domain of Death below and casually slammed it with a tentacle. The Domain of Death shattered with a crash, transforming into a Space Storm that swept through the area.
The small space Hela could not break was easily destroyed by Eye Demon. This was the power of Ancient Gods—their true forms were several times stronger than their projections. More importantly, their true forms possessed complete Concepts, while projections did not.
Of course, Ancient Gods generally would not deploy their true forms, because it was too dangerous. This time, the matter was too important, and all Their projections had been destroyed. Otherwise, They would definitely have sent projections first to test the waters.
That was why Wang Bert had insisted those projections had to die.
"Who can kill you? Obviously, me."
Wang Bert clapped his hands hard. His clothes exploded, and the patterns on his body transformed into golden light that swept toward Chthon.
Chthon’s gaze narrowed. The black mist around Him turned into skulls that crashed toward the golden light. Yet the golden light passed through the skulls like phantoms and enveloped Chthon.
Then Wang Bert and Chthon vanished at the same time.
Deadpool rubbed his chin and asked, "I understand all the logic, but why did he have to burst out of his clothes?"
"Chthon?"
The Demon Gods were startled to see Chthon taken away. At that moment, Astros quietly approached Serpent God Seth. Then, a Light Spear appeared in Her hand out of thin air and pierced through time and space toward Seth.
Seth sensed the danger immediately, but He had no time to dodge. He could only control His tail to travel through time and space and sweep toward the Light Spear.
"Exactly like in training. Seth, you’re dead."
Astros sneered. The Light Spear suddenly radiated boundless brilliance. Seth’s tail was enveloped by the light and froze in midair. Then, the Light Spear viciously stabbed into Seth’s body, bursting out the other side in a spray of blood.
Seth let out a shrill scream. Before He could do anything, Astros transformed into a massive black hole and swallowed Him.
Seth was shocked. He hurriedly used the Devouring Concept to devour the surrounding space and gravitational pull. Then, trapped in the center of the black hole, He roared, "Astros, you actually betrayed us!"
"You’re doomed anyway. What’s wrong with me switching sides?"
Astros snorted. "Let’s see how much you can devour."
As She spoke, Astros increased the rotation of the black hole. At the same time, the Light Spear constantly vibrated, madly destroying Seth’s body.
That Light Spear was the conceptual weapon, the Spear of God.
As Seth struggled desperately, He roared, "Astros, I will never let you go!"
"How many times have you said that? Can’t you come up with something new?"
Astros mocked. Then She called out, "You explosive maniac, and you lunatic, come help me deal with Seth."
"Fine."
Explosion maniac Doctor Doom did not hesitate. He immediately flew toward the black hole. Such an excellent target would be a terrible waste if he did not blow it to pieces.
As for the lunatic Astros referred to, it was naturally Ivan. He froze for a moment, then flew toward the black hole in wild excitement. An opportunity to sense a black hole up close did not come every day.
Wang Bert had once given Ivan a strand of black hole origin, but black holes were far too powerful. Ivan had never managed to comprehend the Concept. Astros’s call was an enormous opportunity for Ivan.
"You do know yourself pretty well."
Tony mocked, then flew into the sky with the others to intercept the Demon Gods.
It was worth noting that Little Hela, Carol, Thor, Hulk, and Skye did not join them. Four of them surrounded Hela, preparing to deal with the woman once and for all, while the last one, uh, was still playing with the "doggie."
"In the blink of an eye, I’m the only Ancient God left?"
Eye Demon blinked, looking extraordinarily… excited. Yes, excited. He loved unexpected developments most of all, because the unexpected represented chaos.
Everything proceeding step by step was so boring.
"Come, come, come! Beat me to death—or I’ll beat you to death."
Eye Demon shouted excitedly. Death meant nothing to Him. What mattered was that it had to be unexpected.
Deadpool rubbed his chin. "Wow, so He’s a pervert too."
Spider-Man asked, "Too?"
Deadpool complained, "I am too, didn’t you know?"
Spider-Man mocked, "At least you know yourself."
