The Dog Pack’s Owner Has Been Found
Rat-tat-tat-tat—
The Fire Snake flashed, its muzzles letting out dull roars. More than twenty firearms concentrated their fire, instantly forming a dense barrage that pressed forward all at once.
The Skull Crawler had likely just crawled out from underground and was still somewhat dazed. Only when the bullets struck its body and pain stimulated it did it begin to go berserk.
It flexed its thick, powerful forelimbs and leaped out of the deep pit. Standing upright, it was ten meters tall, and from head to tail, nearly thirty meters long—terrifyingly huge.
Its massive body possessed astonishing agility. The Skull Crawler dug its forelimbs into the ground, swung its long tail with the motion, and sprang up like a coiled spring. In the blink of an eye, it had reached within a hundred meters of the defensive position.
Not only did its size and speed completely surpass the previously frail Tyrannosaurus Rex, but the Skull Crawler’s defenses were also terrifying, especially the bony structure of its head. Even when swept by heavy machine-gun fire, it only shed some white fragments. The black skin on its arms and torso was weaker, but only relatively so. After the bullets tore through its skin, its dense muscles trapped them tightly.
"Fire! Fire! Prepare to throw grenades! Where are the flamethrowers?"
Colonel Packard shouted desperately, but faced with the impervious giant beast, the soldiers’ nerves had long been stretched to their limits. Their pupils dilated as they roared and blindly pulled their triggers, unable to hear his orders.
Rat-tat-tat-tat—
"Roar, roar, roar—"
The distance between both sides rapidly closed. The Skull Crawler let out a roar, whipping up a foul gale that hit them head-on and made the soldiers even more terrified. The machine gunner stood at the very front of the position, directly facing that bloody maw. His sanity completely snapped; all he could think of was pulling the trigger, and he did not even notice when his gun jammed.
With its prey right before it, murderous intent burst from the Skull Crawler’s dim green eyes. It opened its jaws and lunged viciously at the machine gunner.
At the critical moment, thunder erupted from the flat ground. A silver-white streak flashed out from behind the position and, in the blink of an eye, shot straight into the Skull Crawler’s open mouth.
Boom!!!
Blazing white lightning exploded. Black smoke poured from the Skull Crawler’s mouth as its massive body was thrown to the ground. It writhed wildly, its mouth charred black as large amounts of filthy blood splattered everywhere.
The sudden thunderbolt stunned everyone. The thunder was like a great drum pounding heavily against their hearts, dispersing their fear and allowing them to regain a little composure.
"Roar, roar, roar—"
Powerful wolf howls rang out one after another. James, who had been protecting the Research Team, immediately turned his gun around. Before him were seven gigantic Werewolves running upright.
"What the hell kind of place is this…"
The Research Team was utterly dumbfounded. First there had been a prehistoric Tyrannosaurus Rex, then a giant beast crawling out of the ground, and now even Werewolves had appeared.
What would come next, demons?
Just as they raised their weapons in self-defense and aimed at the charging Werewolves, identical wolf howls sounded beside them. Under their shocked gazes, the eight Huskies swelled all over, rose onto their hind legs, and transformed into gigantic Werewolves of the same size.
"Roar, roar, roar—"
The fifteen Werewolves gathered together, kicked off with their powerful hind legs, and leaped over the soldiers’ line toward the Skull Crawler.
At once, everyone in the Research Team realized that the Dog Pack that had been wagging their tails and begging for food were extremely dangerous. Shan, the Asian Young Woman in the team, turned deathly pale. Thinking about how she had been feeding eight such monsters, she felt completely awful.
Fortunately, although the Dog Pack looked savage and terrifying after transforming, they did not attack them. Instead, they immediately began fighting the Skull Crawler.
Beasts possessed the sharpest instincts, and the Skull Crawler was no exception. It was elusive, skilled at ambushes, and naturally highly alert. Sensing danger approaching, it immediately stopped writhing and let out a painful, furious roar at the Werewolves.
A vicious wind swept toward them, but the fifteen Werewolves showed no fear at all. They surrounded the Skull Crawler, whose body was countless times larger than theirs.
Claws swept out! Flesh and blood flew!
One Werewolf charged beneath the Skull Crawler’s belly and left a half-meter-long wound on its forelimb. Flesh split open, exposing crimson muscle, and the air instantly filled with the stench of blood.
"Rooaaargh!!"
The Skull Crawler’s savage green eyes widened. With a vicious sweep of its tail, it sent the Werewolf flying. The latter looked as though it had been struck head-on by a speeding train, soaring dozens of meters away before crashing heavily into the ground and smashing out a large crater.
The Werewolf rolled over and got to its feet, bared its fangs, and roared angrily before stomping with its hind legs and charging back in.
On the battlefield, although the Skull Crawler was agile, it was clearly sluggish and slow compared with the Werewolves. Its enormous body had become a burden, and Werewolves crawled all over its chest and back.
The fifteen thick-skinned Werewolves swung their claws and tore savagely at its flesh with their wolfish jaws. Before long, they brought the Skull Crawler down. They swarmed it, and their teamwork left it utterly helpless. Amid the flashing teeth, flesh and blood splattered as they ripped open its belly. White bones mixed with filthy blood, creating an exceptionally gruesome scene.
The Skull Crawler twisted and rolled on the ground. Its eyes were gouged blind, its long tongue bitten off. It swung its forelimbs to knock the Werewolves from its body, only to draw an even fiercer counterattack.
"Wooooh!!"
A mournful cry rang out as the Skull Crawler collapsed to the ground, its entire body a bloody mess.
Filthy blood flowed from its mouth. Beneath its bony facial armor, dark, bloody holes had replaced its eyes. Its forelimbs and long tail had been bitten into mangled remnants. The most horrifying wound was on its abdomen: a huge hole had been torn open between two rows of blood-red ribs, its intestines spilling across the ground, with deeper internal organs vaguely visible.
Two Werewolves crawled into the hole. The Skull Crawler began trembling violently as if convulsing. Soon, its enormous body twitched a few times before falling completely still.
"Awoooo—"
After a perfect team hunt, the Werewolves had slaughtered a Skull Crawler dozens of times larger than themselves. They all threw back their heads and howled.
The soldiers looked at one another, then finally at Colonel Packard. The Dog Pack had once been lively and adorable, and had even warned and saved them several times. But things were different now. Fifteen gigantic upright Werewolves stood there, covered in filthy blood and brimming with viciousness. No one knew whether they were friends or foes.
Colonel Packard raised a fist, signaling his men to stay calm. At that moment, the Werewolves collectively turned to look toward the position. Their gazes passed over the soldiers and Research Team, and they all gave low growls as their bodies shrank back into four-legged Huskies.
"Woof! Woof! Woof!"
The Dog Pack started running at top speed, ignoring the dumbfounded soldiers and research personnel as they disappeared like a pack unleashed.
Everyone first breathed a sigh of relief, glad that the Dog Pack was kind-hearted after all. They truly were humanity’s best friends. Then they suddenly came to their senses—without the Huskies’ protection, what would they do if they encountered another impervious Skull Crawler?
"Quick! Follow them and bring them back!!" Colonel Packard and James shouted in unison.
Only then did everyone fully realize the situation. Ignoring the guns and ammunition at the position, they broke into a run after the Dog Pack.
There was no way they could catch them. If Huskies were that easy to catch, they would not be called escape artists.
Fortunately, they had not run for long before spotting the fifteen Huskies. Along with them appeared two unfamiliar figures. One was an Asian girl about ten years old. The other…
Was hard to describe!
Wrapped entirely in a black robe, his features obscured by black mist, only a pair of eyes emitting blue light could be seen on his face. By any normal person’s worldview, someone like that was either a villain, the villain’s boss, or the villain’s boss lurking behind the scenes.
Yet the Huskies were jumping around him, scrambling to leap into his arms.
"If I’m not mistaken… we’ve found the dogs’ owner…" James murmured. He instinctively looked toward Shan, the Asian Young Woman. He did not understand Werewolf habits, but as for Huskies, perhaps snacks could win them over!
