The Might of the Helicarrier
"Master!"
In his small machine form, Vis hopped over on two feet and stopped at Kyle’s feet, bending at the waist in a gentlemanly salute.
"One fully charged Krypton Gold crystal could support Sakaar’s Interstellar Ship as it traveled across the Milky Way Galaxy, keep Tony’s Iron Armor fighting intensely for an entire day, or be converted into enough electricity to power New York City for ten minutes. So why did it get depleted so quickly when it came to you?"
Kyle shot him a glance and scolded him irritably, though he raised a hand and pulled out a Blue Item Card.
He converted the card into a brand-new Krypton Gold crystal and casually tossed it onto the empty ground beside his feet.
Vis’s eyes brightened slightly. Forgetting all about gentlemanly manners, he eagerly pounced forward, catching the glowing white Krypton Gold crystal just in time and stuffing it into the dark mechanical gears inside his open mouth.
With loud crunching sounds, Vis lay on the carrier deck, treating the Krypton Gold crystal in his hands like food. He chewed it into energy crystal chunks and swallowed them, replenishing his depleted core energy, which had nearly reached the point of shutdown.
"What a spendthrift." Kyle shook his head helplessly. A single Krypton Gold crystal was enough to drain the fortunes of all those wealthy tycoons on Earth.
Vis’s Transformer Mode combat was practically just burning money, using cash to crush others to death.
Fortunately, Kyle had an enormous stockpile of nearly ten thousand such Krypton Gold crystals.
"Greetings, Patriarch." Natasha tugged on Sam’s arm, stepped forward, and knelt on one knee on the deck in a respectful salute.
"Uh, Mr. Kyle."
Sam scratched his head, still unable to adjust to the fact that the Dark Creature before him, seemingly a symbol of slaughter and evil, was actually the legendary hero revered by everyone as the Symbol of Peace.
The Symbol of Peace and a Dark Creature represented two completely opposite extremes, yet they were now the same person…
"Patriarch, these are the program chips for restarting the carriers. Fury originally gave them to Steve, and Steve just handed them to me." Natasha gave her report, opening her clenched hand to reveal three green chips resting in her palm.
Each chip corresponded to a Helicarrier. All three had to be inserted into the carrier’s console for them to take effect.
"The key to dismantling Project Insight?" Kyle murmured coldly. He extended his large hand and picked up one of the chips between two fingers to inspect it.
Under Natasha and Sam’s shocked gazes, Kyle exerted a little force with his fingers and lightly crushed the chip into powder.
"Patriarch, why did you do that?" Natasha’s beautiful eyes widened in alarm and confusion.
"With Vis, that’s enough. There’s no need for such a troublesome method of restarting the carrier with chips." Kyle spoke calmly.
Natasha and Sam both turned their eyes toward Vis, who was still gnawing on Krypton Gold.
As if waking from a dream, Vis explained, "Right. I kept forgetting to tell you. As long as I have enough energy and am aboard a carrier, I can directly control the satellites and alter the system commands of the carrier I’m on."
As he spoke, two antennae extended from Vis’s forehead, while his feet drove hard into the carrier deck’s steel. Faint electric light traveled down the deck and into the carrier’s interior.
His mechanical eyes flickered as strings of code flashed through them and a torrent of data raced at high speed.
Three seconds later.
Vis clapped his hands. "Done. The carrier we’re on is now under my control."
"It was that easy?"
Natasha and Sam exchanged a look, both feeling speechless. The matter they had struggled so hard to deal with had been resolved by a third so quickly?
"You don’t believe me?" Vis proudly puffed out his mechanical chest.
Without energy, he was indeed nothing more than scrap metal.
But after devouring Krypton Gold and fully charging himself, Vis was now, as far as Earth was concerned, a one-of-a-kind extraordinary mechanical intelligent lifeform that stood above the world’s most advanced technology.
Earth’s mere satellites? Radio waves could follow the carrier’s signal path upward, breach the satellites’ protective walls, and forcibly alter the carrier system commands that had already been set!
So at this point in time, just how powerful was Earth’s publicly developed pinnacle technological creation—the Helicarrier?
Kyle pondered inwardly, baring a cold grin as his tongue licked across his lips. "Vis, give it a try."
"Right away. But how should I test it?" Vis shook his head excitedly. Then he looked up at the fighter formation circling overhead and eyeing them menacingly, suddenly realizing that they were the perfect test targets.
"I really haven’t seen what this carrier can do."
Vis’s antennae snapped upright. The carrier, which had endured missile bombardment and was already riddled with holes, began to shake violently under the commands it received.
The various gun turrets built into the carrier’s hull seemed to suddenly flare with temper, activating all at once. Their barrels automatically adjusted up, down, left, and right before quickly locking onto the fighter formation circling diagonally above.
"Countdown. Three, two, one, fire!" Vis declared solemnly, looking every bit the commander.
At his command, the heavily damaged, teetering carrier transformed into an enormous Gatling gun. Dozens, even hundreds, of gun ports fired simultaneously according to orders.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Countless shells and missiles poured forth, dragging long trails of flame and smoke behind them. They formed a devastating curtain of artillery fire that covered the hundred-meter area overhead.
That area was precisely where the enemy fighters had been circling and observing.
Everything happened too fast. The remaining nine fighters had no time to evade or flee, and in the blink of an eye, they were swallowed by the bombing tide created by the barrage of shells.
Smoke filled the blue sky, white clouds were torn apart in chaos, and the expanding blast waves blanketed the skies over half of New York City.
At noon that day, anyone in New York only had to look up to clearly see the explosion clouds, more dazzling and brutal than fireworks.
Sam sighed. "With this kind of firepower, it’s no wonder three Helicarriers could wipe out humanity’s elite talents in such a short time."
"After all, S.H.I.E.L.D. secretly spent years building them," Natasha said as if it were only natural.
"Their firepower is no less than that of a Starfighter. The only problem is that Helicarriers are a little too cumbersome." Thinking of this, Kyle could not help grinning.
One could not be too greedy.
Who cared whether it was cumbersome? A carrier was never meant to be agile or fight alone. It was meant to serve as a mobile giant base fortress, a transit station.
"Vis, send the system command and fly this carrier out of New York City," Kyle ordered.
"We’re not keeping this carrier?" Vis asked.
"It’s already severely damaged. What’s the point of keeping it? We’ll steal new ones."
Kyle raised his eyes toward the other two intact Helicarriers a hundred meters away.
"Patriarch, it’s not stealing. Those were ours to begin with." Natasha smiled.
"Don’t make us sound like villains. But why do I feel so excited?" Sam said with a bitter smile.
Unlike Steve’s cautious step-by-step approach, Kyle’s rhythm could be summed up in one word—awesome!
