The Rules Have Changed
The Avengers heroes exchanged glances when they saw the girl, but they quickly saw the confusion in one another’s eyes. Clearly, no one present knew who she was.
The footage continued. The girl appeared to be in a dim basement, but the lighting was so poor that no one could make out her surroundings.
But the girl’s next action immediately startled many of those watching.
She slowly raised her hand, displaying a red mask to everyone watching the video.
"Deadpool’s mask!" Ant-Man was the first to cry out.
"How is that possible!?" Cable could not help but speak up as well.
The others all frowned deeply. They had never expected Deadpool, who had given them headaches for so long, to have already been dealt with by a young girl!
"Wait, it’s only a mask. We still can’t be sure whether Deadpool has actually been subdued." Misty Knight spoke up. He watched the screen closely, never taking his eyes off it for even a moment.
"Yes, this could very well be another scheme by those criminals. We can’t—"
Captain America was still speaking when the following scene made him shut his mouth, swallowing the rest of his words.
The view on the screen shifted slightly, following Kara as the camera moved behind her. With the aid of the light, everyone could barely make out the surroundings there.
In a place that looked like a storeroom, yet also like a basement, several swaying figures hung from iron chains. They were lined up in a row, like cuts of pork hanging in a slaughterhouse.
Kate Bishop narrowed her eyes, straining to see more clearly and identify the people hanging in midair. But when she truly recognized one of them, her eyes widened.
"That’s!"
Misty Knight’s mouth fell open as well, because he recognized them at that moment too. "It’s Kingpin! And Green Goblin!"
"And Eyeball Man and Baron Zemo!" Captain America was equally stunned. "M.O.D.O.K. and Mysterio too!"
At that moment, nearly everyone who saw the scene rose to their feet. These supervillains were all notorious figures, intimidating even in the eyes of ordinary people.
The cries of shock from outside did not affect the girl in the video. She slowly approached the suspended criminals, and in the next instant, her eyes abruptly turned red at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Then, two scarlet beams of Heat Vision shot forth. As her gaze swept sideways, the destructive beams tore through Kingpin, Green Goblin, and Mysterio from left to right, splitting their bodies cleanly into upper and lower halves.
"Arghhhhh!!!" The agonizing pain brought forth heart-wrenching screams from the three men. Then, as their bodies were severed, their lives came to an end.
Listening to their piercing screams, the girl’s expression did not change in the slightest. She then released another devastating sweep of Heat Vision from right to left, this time beginning with M.O.D.O.K.
"No! Don’t—aaaaah!!!"
Eyeball Man was beside M.O.D.O.K.
"Spare me, spare me—aaaargh!!!"
A massacre!
An utter massacre!
Hearing the supervillains’ miserable howls before death, everyone who witnessed the scene felt a chill crawl down their spines.
Even the remaining heroes at Avengers headquarters felt their mouths go dry. They stared blankly at the slaughter unfolding on-screen, their minds temporarily empty.
Under the girl’s devastating Heat Vision, only Baron Zemo remained in the end.
The girl strolled up to him and reached out to tear off his purple hood, revealing Baron Zemo’s still somewhat handsome face.
But Baron Zemo’s face was nearly covered in blood by then, and he was almost unrecognizable.
Sensing the killing intent of the black-haired girl before him, Baron Zemo spoke faintly.
"Y-you… who are you!?"
In response, the girl merely gave a mocking sneer. Then she slowly extended her hand and gently pressed it against his chest.
"I know you’re carrying out a major plan, and many criminals have joined it. But you should never have done this. You should never have broken the rules. Now that you’ve crossed that red line, don’t blame me."
With that, the girl smiled faintly, then suddenly exerted force. Her hand pierced straight through Baron Zemo’s chest!
"AAAH—!!!"
The brief scream quickly faded, and the massacre was declared over.
After doing all that, the girl turned back toward the camera.
"This is only the beginning. You rats who are only fit to hide in the gutters—I’ll find every last one of you. Don’t tell me you’re innocent before you die. Perhaps some of you truly had nothing to do with it, but I don’t care."
The girl took out a tissue and slowly wiped the blood from her hand, showing the camera a dangerous smile.
"My name is Kara. Anyone is welcome to come after me. Or perhaps… you can try guessing who will be next?"
As soon as she finished speaking, every screen instantly went black.
The Avengers’ remaining heroes stayed silent. After exchanging glances, the atmosphere fell into a dead silence.
No one knew who the girl in the footage was, nor did anyone know just how terrifying Kara’s strength was. People could only wait, waiting to see how things would unfold.
It was not just them. Even superheroes like Captain America fell silent at that moment.
Under normal circumstances, faced with someone who had hacked into the network and broadcast such brutal slaughter before countless people, Captain America would definitely have made some sort of statement at a press conference.
But surprisingly, ever since the video had been released, the entire Avengers headquarters had remained closed to visitors, as if they were deliberately avoiding reporters.
The villains, however, scoffed at this. These people had always feared neither heaven nor earth, and they did not believe that a girl who looked younger than twenty could pose any threat to them.
Besides, Deadpool had already killed quite a few of those annoying heroes. If they did not pull off some big jobs while they had the chance, then when would they? They could not let such a perfect opportunity slip away!
Until—
In Times Square, Kara smashed Absorbing Man’s head apart with a single punch in the street. Even the elements Absorbing Man had absorbed could not withstand that tremendous force.
In Manhattan, after battling Abomination for ten minutes, Kara seized an opening and snapped his neck with her own hands while he was caught off guard.
At the top of the Empire State Building in New York, under Kara’s terrifying Heat Vision, the Symbiotes could not even escape. They could only watch helplessly as their bodies were burned to ashes.
