Thor
"We soldiers, what makes us different…"
On the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, a squad of Chinese border soldiers marched neatly toward their camp, singing as they went.
This was a Chinese border defense unit. Most of the soldiers appeared to be Han Chinese, each one upright and imposing. Though they were stationed in a bitterly cold region, they were all lightly dressed. With their exceptional physical fitness, even wearing short sleeves atop snowy mountains felt like nothing special to them.
Every one of these soldiers was a man devoted to serving his country. After rotations, every soldier here had now gone to the capital and undergone evolution.
Each soldier here possessed strength beyond anything ordinary people could imagine.
Yet among this squad, one person seemed somewhat out of place.
That was because he was a blond, blue-eyed foreigner with neat short golden hair and clearly defined muscles on his bare arms.
Thor…
He had already been in the border defense unit for several years.
He had long since adapted to life in the barracks.
Of everyone singing just now, he had sung with the most gusto.
"Thor, let’s spar after we get back."
After returning to camp and finishing the day’s patrol, several soldiers came over to Thor. One of them patted him on the shoulder and spoke eagerly.
"…"
Thor’s face darkened. The soldier before him was codenamed Leng Feng. He was a powerful newcomer here who particularly enjoyed challenging people to spar. (P.S. A cameo.)
Leng Feng had arrived at this camp later than Thor. When Thor had first come, China had yet to begin widespread evolution. At least in this camp, virtually no one had been a match for him.
Even though Thor’s power had been sealed and Thor’s Hammer Mjolnir had not yet recognized him.
With Thor’s divine body alone, ordinary Earthlings truly had not been his match.
At first, Thor had been especially unruly. There really had been no one capable of keeping him in line.
But later, the higher-ups transferred in a new instructor named Wang Wei, who thoroughly crushed Thor’s arrogance. Without any mercy, he had even shaved off Thor’s beautiful long golden hair…
For a long time afterward, Thor had been deeply depressed, wearing a miserable expression at all times.
But as time passed, Thor gradually adapted to military life and was influenced by the atmosphere here.
Over time, through several disaster relief and rescue missions, Thor gradually came to understand why Chinese soldiers could lift Mjolnir.
"Stand firmly with the people and serve them wholeheartedly!"
This was the sole purpose of this army.
After Thor learned this, he discovered that Mjolnir, which had long remained unmoved in the barracks, had loosened slightly.
After several disaster relief and rescue missions, Thor knew that he could once again lift Thor’s Hammer. He could wield Thor’s Hammer once more.
But Thor felt that was not enough. He had not come here merely to lift Thor’s Hammer again. He also wanted to learn the purpose of the Chinese military and bring this army’s spirit back to his own Asgard.
He wanted Asgard’s army to possess faith like that of the Chinese military.
He had even drafted the same guiding principles for Asgard’s army.
An army was not merely a weapon for conquering other worlds; it was also the Guardians of its own nation!
Having realized this, Thor became even more reluctant to leave this army.
But for some reason, starting two years ago, the military had gradually begun selecting people to go to the Chinese capital. When they returned, every one of them possessed unimaginable strength, no weaker than his own!
In particular, after returning, most of the soldiers had actually mastered the power of lightning. This left Thor extremely embarrassed.
Who exactly was the God of Thunder here?
Although he was Thor, without his hammer, he simply could not wield lightning. Yet look at things now—nearly every soldier in this camp could discharge electricity. How was Thor supposed to live with that?
"We can spar, but no lightning."
Thor rubbed his nose and spoke with a serious expression.
"…"
As Thor, although he had regained Thor’s Hammer’s recognition and recovered his divine power, he truly could not summon thunder without holding Thor’s Hammer. If Leng Feng used lightning, he would not be able to withstand it!
So he had to make this condition clear first.
"You can use your hammer."
Leng Feng looked speechless as he took a Thor’s Spear from his storage device, gazing at Thor with surging fighting spirit.
"Let’s not. We’re brothers in the same camp. Sparring is one thing, but using weapons would hurt our friendship too much."
Thor showed an awkward yet polite smile.
Could he say that, in terms of functionality, his Thor’s Hammer was inferior to Thor’s Spear?
Thor’s Hammer Mjolnir was indeed more powerful than Thor’s Spear, and the Thor’s lightning power it carried was even more terrifying. But it only had the simple ability to discharge electricity. Thor’s Spear, aside from wielding the same lightning, could also fire magic-energy cannons. If Leng Feng kept firing, even Thor would not be able to endure it!
More importantly, the other man could lift Mjolnir too!
If his hammer defected in the middle of the fight, that would be truly awkward.
Come to think of it, hadn’t they said Thor’s Spear was extremely precious? It was supposedly a divine weapon that China had produced by mobilizing the entire nation. Yet now everyone in the barracks had one. Thor felt utterly helpless, as though Chen Mu had played him.
"Ah, fine. I was saying I could finally give my strength a proper workout."
Leng Feng sighed, somewhat regretful.
"…"
Thor’s face was full of black lines. He knew perfectly well that Leng Feng was planning revenge. After all, when Leng Feng had first arrived at camp, Thor had beaten him up several times under the pretense of sparring.
In any case, Thor was no longer as reckless in the barracks as he had been before. At the very least, he no longer wanted to spar with everyone he saw.
The main reason was that, in this camp now, Thor seemingly could not beat anyone.
Of course, that was on the condition that no one fought desperately. If it came down to a life-or-death struggle, Thor could still take a chance.
Everyone in this camp had undergone evolution. Their bodies were now stronger than those of most Asgardian warriors, and with their ability to control lightning, every soldier actually possessed combat strength no weaker than Thor’s.
"Come on, let’s head to the training grounds!"
Leng Feng looked eager to get started, rubbing his hands together. Unable to wait any longer, he directly opened a portal leading to the drill field.
"Let’s go! There’s a show to watch!"
Seeing this, the idle soldiers all became excited as well.
"Enough messing around. A mission has come in."
At that moment, Wang Wei walked over and calmly approached Thor.
"What mission? Has another disaster struck somewhere?"
Thor rolled up his sleeves and asked curiously.
Well, avoiding an unnecessary fight was great.
Of course, Thor was afraid of losing. He might not necessarily lose against Leng Feng, but what if he did?
Did Thor not care about his reputation?
Right now, Leng Feng was the only person in camp besides the cook whom Thor had yet to defeat. If he lost, his dignity would truly be gone.
Though Thor had long since lost his dignity, and he no longer cared about saving face as much as he once had.
"Your brother Loki has appeared. He came to Earth and stole something from S.H.I.E.L.D. We believe that since this concerns Asgard, you need to handle it personally."
