The commander hurriedly ducked behind a nearby building and shouted in disbelief, "How is this possible? They took so many bullets. Why aren’t they dead?"
The lieutenant colonel in the rear command room shouted, "Now isn’t the time to worry about that, Commander! Counterattack immediately! We cannot lose this time!"
"Don’t worry. We won’t lose."
The commander shouted fiercely. He was about to begin issuing orders when, with a series of thuds, figures leaped down from the nearby buildings and pounced on the soldiers with the ferocity of cheetahs.
"They jumped from that high and they’re fine?"
The commander’s expression changed drastically. Drawing his gun, he shouted, "Kill them!"
Before the commander had even finished speaking, the Evil Believers charged into the soldiers. One Evil Believer roared and slammed a fist into a soldier’s chest, sending him flying backward and knocking three soldiers behind him away as well.
The soldiers drew their combat knives and fought fiercely, but they were no match for the Evil Believers. Not only were the Evil Believers fast, their strength was terrifying. A single punch could cave in an entire chest.
The battle between the Evil Believers and the soldiers was like tigers entering a flock of sheep. Soldiers fell one after another. The commander retreated to the rear and raised his gun at the Evil Believers.
Bang, bang, bang! The commander was a decent shot. Three bullets struck an Evil Believer in the chest at once, but the Evil Believer was barely affected. The reason was simple: all the bullets had been caught by his muscles.
Only then did the commander understand why those Evil Believers had "come back from the dead." They had never died in the first place. Their defenses far surpassed those of ordinary people.
"Sorry, but your gun doesn’t pack enough firepower."
The Evil Believer grinned viciously and charged through the bullets to the commander. Then he grabbed the commander by the head and smashed it against the wall. With a bang, the commander’s head burst like a watermelon.
The Evil Believer laughed wildly amid the blood. At the same time, the bullets in his chest were squeezed out by his regenerating muscles and clattered onto the ground.
That was right. These Evil Believers also possessed a certain degree of regeneration.
"You came too late. If you’d been here from the start, we would have been doomed. Unfortunately, you were a full hour late."
The Evil Believers’ Captain, a long-haired man, tossed a glowing brick into the nearby building. The next moment, the brick exploded with a boom. Several soldiers hiding inside were blown to death on the spot, their mangled bodies sprawled across the floor.
This Captain’s ability was Explosion Power. He could make any object he touched explode. He had destroyed the armored vehicles earlier.
At first, Explosion Captain and the others had merely been one elite monster leading a group of minor monsters. Later, they had "leveled up by killing monsters" and become a group of elite monsters. Under those circumstances, how could the military not lose? "How did this happen?"
The lieutenant colonel stared at his utterly routed forces and slammed a fist onto the table in fury. Then he shouted, "Deploy the attack helicopters! I want them bombed to death!"
They were only in a small county town, so there had been no attack helicopters stationed there initially. Only major cities had helicopters and missiles.
"Lieutenant Colonel, it will take at least an hour for the helicopters to arrive."
The officer hesitated before asking, "A lot of people will die in an hour. Should we ask for…"
The lieutenant colonel turned around and glared at the officer with bloodshot eyes. "You want me to ask mutants for help?"
The officer swallowed and forced himself to say, "Mutants have Teleportation abilities. They can immediately send soldiers and equipment to the Frontlines. With their help, those Evil Believers would be nothing."
"I will never ask mutants for help!"
The lieutenant colonel shouted angrily, "Deploy the attack helicopters immediately! Also, organize the police to establish a defensive line and keep the Evil Believers contained within this residential district."
The officer sighed helplessly and saluted. "Yes, lieutenant colonel."
It was not only this small town’s military operation that had failed. The military in other areas was not faring much better either. The Evil Believers were stronger than they had expected, and worse still, the equipment they had brought was gradually falling into the Evil Believers’ hands.
With armored vehicles and assault vehicles, the Evil Believers were like fish in water. They slaughtered people throughout the cities, offering sacrifices to their god while rapidly increasing their own strength.
If this continued, they would not remain mere elite monsters. At any moment, someone might evolve into a boss monster, or even a king-level monster like Greed or Wrath.
Though the situation was dire, the military still had no intention of asking for help. The moment they did, the foundation of their existence would be shaken. What purpose did a military that could not even protect its citizens serve? Inside a conference room in Washington, an old general with an iron-blooded bearing ordered, "Tell all major bases to send out every attack helicopter they have to support the Frontlines. We will fight this battle as a war."
"Yes, General."
An officer nodded and sent out the order through the internal communications channel.
"General, with so many buildings in the cities and the Evil Believers’ formidable strength, attack helicopters may not be effective."
The staff officer hesitated before saying, "I suggest deploying the mutant covert team."
"No. No one can know they exist."
The old general shook his head. The mutants in the covert team were all slaves under their control, from Francis’s research institution.
"What about the robots? Trask Industries has burned through at least a hundred billion dollars over the years. Don’t they have even one finished product?"
The staff officer frowned and asked again. The military’s technological projects were mainly divided into two areas: mutants and robots.
"The robots are in the final critical stage. They should not be deployed to the battlefield."
The old general shook his head again. "At this stage, we cannot let mutants learn of the Sentinel Robots’ existence. Otherwise, they will definitely sabotage the robots in secret.
With Bert Wang’s strength, forget the robots—even Trask Industries would be destroyed by him."
At this point, the old general said impatiently, "You don’t need to worry so much. A few hundred Evil Believers can’t cause much trouble. This is America!"
The old general clearly did not know that the Evil Believers could "level up by killing monsters." Otherwise, he would never have been so arrogant.
"General, with our strength, eliminating the Evil Believers is certainly not a problem. The problem is that this cannot drag on too long. This is America—our homeland."
The staff officer said, "If it goes on too long, those bureaucrats will definitely seek help from the mutants. They cannot bear excessive economic losses or casualties."
"We absolutely cannot let them ask mutants for help."
The old general frowned. "Send fighter jets into battle. Also, authorize the Frontlines to use some heavy weapons. We must eliminate the Evil Believers in the shortest possible time."
"That is the only option."
The staff officer sighed. It was a pity that neither mutants nor robots could be used. Otherwise, why would this be so troublesome? The truth was, in America, it was not only the president who was selfish. The military was just as selfish!…
"Trying to blow up a building? Did you ask me first?"
Wang Bert waved a group of Evil Believers into the sky. Even he was slightly out of breath after repeatedly saving people and killing Evil Believers. At that moment, Psylocke contacted him. "BOSS, these Evil Believers seem to be getting stronger."
"Getting stronger? I haven’t noticed."
Wang Bert blinked. He truly had not noticed. After all, it was all solved with a wave of his hand.
"You’re too strong. It’s normal that you wouldn’t notice."
Psylocke said, "In the first county, I took ten minutes to finish them all. In the second county, I took an hour. In the third one… BOSS, can you come save me? I can barely hold on."
"So you’re asking for help."
Wang Bert teased. He teleported to Psylocke’s side and found her hiding in a small room, gasping for breath.
"BOSS, you’re here."
Psylocke was overjoyed to see Wang Bert. She said, "Those Evil Believers are not only strong and fast, but they also have a certain degree of regeneration. They’re hard to deal with."
Psylocke had lost not only because the Evil Believers were difficult opponents, but because she was exhausted. She had been fighting nonstop for the past two hours, and her stamina and energy had long since run dry.
"That doesn’t sound like something the heroic Psylocke would say."
Wang Bert smiled and took out a stack of Banknotes from his pocket. "Let’s restore our Lady Psylocke to her peak condition."
As the Banknotes vanished, Psylocke felt all the exhaustion drain from her body. She stood up and asked in surprise, "You can do that?"
"Of course. Otherwise, how do you think I’ve lasted until now? I’ve already used Teleportation to save more than ten thousand people. I knew America had plenty of weirdos, but I never expected this many."
Wang Bert complained, "Trains, planes, buildings, poison gas… Can’t these people do something normal for once?"
Psylocke sighed. "It’s fortunate that America has you. Otherwise, many more people would have died."
"Someone’s coming."
Wang Bert was about to speak when he suddenly sensed something and turned toward the door. The next moment, the room’s door was kicked down, and six Evil Believers filed in through the doorway.
"Lady Psylocke, we’re here. Did you miss us? Holy shit, Iron Man!"
One Evil Believer was boasting arrogantly when he suddenly saw Wang Bert standing beside Psylocke. He was so frightened that he nearly jumped out of the corridor window.
"Iron Man!"
The others also spotted Wang Bert, and their expressions changed drastically. Then the Evil Believer who had spoken earlier calmed down and shouted, "Don’t panic! Iron Man may be powerful, but we are no longer what we used to be. He may not be our match."
The Evil Believers shouted loudly as if trying to bolster their courage. "That’s right! He may not be our match!"
Psylocke sneered. "If you really want to build confidence, you should remove the words ‘may not.’"
"Time is tight. I won’t waste words on you. Die."
Wang Bert waved his hand, and all six Evil Believers vanished at once. Psylocke complained, "No wonder you can’t tell that they’re getting stronger when you fight like that."
"My fault?"
Wang Bert smiled and turned his finger. A terrified Evil Believer suddenly appeared on the floor, screaming in panic.
Psylocke asked in confusion, "Why did you bring him back?"
Wang Bert said, "I need some information. Tell me, are you getting stronger?"
The Evil Believer came to his senses and roared at Wang Bert, "My God is immortal! He will destroy this world and lead us to transcendence!"
"Looks like I’ll need to use some methods."
The Evil Believer shouted, "I won’t tell you anything! My God will witness my loyalty! My God is immortal! My God is omnipotent…"
Psylocke said with disgust, "BOSS, they won’t talk. They’re all insane."
"He won’t talk to others, but in front of me, he definitely will."
Wang Bert took out a stack of Banknotes. "Tell me the answer."
The Banknotes vanished, and the Evil Believer said uncontrollably, "Every time we kill someone, we become a little stronger. It is the reward our god gives us."
"Leveling up by killing people?"
Psylocke was stunned, then her expression darkened. In other words, the longer this went on, the more dangerous the Evil Believers would become.
"We must deal with all the Evil Believers as soon as possible."
Wang Bert sent the Evil Believer back into the sky, then said, "Psylocke, I’ll help you finish things here, then I’ll find Greed and Wrath. They must have planned this. They want to restore their strength through slaughter."
"Alright."
Psylocke did not waste words. Riding the Green Goblin Glider, she rushed out the window with Wang Bert. Hearing the commotion, the Evil Believers looked up into the sky. The instant they saw him, they were horrified. Why was Iron Man here?
"Iron Man, you came at the perfect time! Once I kill you, I can become God’s messenger!"
A man shouted excitedly. Then he controlled a nearby car, sending it soaring into the air before smashing it viciously toward Wang Bert.
"That’s their Captain. He can use telekinesis to move objects."
Psylocke swung her purple blade and sliced the car in half. Then she controlled the Green Goblin Glider and dived toward the Telekinesis Captain.
"Psylocke, get lost!"
The Telekinesis Captain roared. Countless objects rose from the ground and shot toward Psylocke in a dense barrage. Psylocke spun her blade so tightly that not even water could penetrate, cutting every object apart.
Then Psylocke rushed before the Telekinesis Captain, her purple blade slashing toward him like a streak of light. The Telekinesis Captain used telekinesis to seize the blade, stopping it in midair and preventing it from coming down.
"You can’t stop me."
Psylocke poured mental energy into her blade with all her might. The blade slowly moved closer and closer to the Telekinesis Captain. Seeing that he was in danger, the other Evil Believers immediately opened fire on Wang Bert and Psylocke.
It was worth mentioning that the Evil Believers not only had submachine guns, but also vehicle-mounted machine guns and Rocket Launchers "kindly provided" by the military. Their firepower was exceptionally brutal.
Psylocke ignored everything completely, because Wang Bert stood behind her. With BOSS here, no one could hurt her.
Wang Bert shook his head. Every bullet and rocket vanished at once. When they reappeared, they were already behind the Evil Believers.
Then, amid screams and explosions, the Evil Believers fell in heaps. However, quite a few of them did not die. With their current strength, bullets could no longer easily kill them.
"They really have gotten stronger."
Wang Bert snorted and waved his hand. All the Evil Believers vanished. A few seconds later, they crashed down from the sky one after another, reduced to pulp.
"How is this possible?"
The deaths of the Evil Believers shook the Telekinesis Captain’s mind, greatly weakening his telekinesis. Psylocke seized the chance and slashed down, cutting the Telekinesis Captain in two.
"BOSS, go find Greed and Wrath first. I’ll hunt down the remaining Evil Believers."
Psylocke called to Wang Bert and controlled the Green Goblin Glider toward the Evil Believers in the distance. More than two hours had passed since the disaster began, and the Evil Believers had gradually scattered in order to slaughter more humans.
