White Face’s Ability (First Update, 3K)
Team member UD39655522 (Youjiu) has died
Kai exhaled a foul breath. The moment he had seen Basha’s death notification fifteen minutes ago, he had felt a bad premonition.
Although Youjiu had strengthened his bloodline, he had a screw loose. Without Basha’s command and restraint, he could easily go berserk.
He had not expected him to die so quickly.
Damn it, could some powerful team have entered this world as well?
Just who the hell was that XX53562211?!
Why did that number seem somewhat familiar to him…
"Boss, things outside are looking bad. Shouldn’t we retreat?"
Jiasu frowned. He was not very familiar with Youjiu or Basha and did not usually act with them, but Youjiu was a core combatant of the team. As a reincarnator who had strengthened his bloodline, he was clearly one of Fifth Element’s veteran members.
Such a loss was a major blow to any team.
The space they were in now resembled a pitch-black night, completely isolated from outside the barrier.
Neither radio signals nor telepathic communication could pass through the barrier.
The only exception was the space notifications.
Unfortunately for the members of Fifth Element, every notification they saw reported the death of a team member.
Kai could not help letting his thoughts wander. He wondered whether hidden Plot Characters had killed his teammates—the thousand-year-old Jujutsu Sorcerer lurking behind the scenes, perhaps, or the still-unawakened Two-faced Shōnen, or… those exceptionally powerful special-grade cursed spirits from the story.
"Hehe, you’re wavering, Kai."
A booming voice rang out from the darkness. In an instant, countless Grudge Spirits howled once more. Grudge Spirits and cursed spirits packed the entire space, everywhere one looked.
Ordinary paper-tier reincarnators would likely die before they could even deal with these lowly minions.
Even stronger Bing-level reincarnators could only barely protect themselves with the aid of items.
Powerful waves radiated from Kai’s body. Every Grudge Spirit and cursed spirit charging at him was smashed apart by those waves.
He stood at the very front of the team, his face ashen and his body emanating a terrifying aura.
This sight made Suguru Geto, who could barely sense the surrounding situation in this special space through the vision of cursed spirits, cast a sideways glance.
"What is it?"
Kusakabe asked Suguru Geto.
Suguru Geto merely shook his head and continued forward with the others. Each of them held a white talisman, the final legacy of the Tsuchimikado Clan, a great Onmyōdō family.
Suguru Geto had already distributed those items among the new generation of Jujutsu Sorcerers.
These talismans could drive away Grudge Spirits to a certain degree and reduce the sorcerers’ losses.
Moreover, Shoko Ieiri had mastered the Reverse Cursed Technique to an exceptional degree. As a Jujutsu Sorcerer accustomed to putting out "positive energy," she also possessed strong restraint against Grudge Spirits.
"Nothing. I merely saw a monkey that was especially powerful."
Suguru Geto then clapped his hands and said,
"While that fellow’s attention is on the monkey, we need to quickly find every ritual node."
"Perhaps this time, we really might need to save Tokyo."
Though saving the world was clearly a heroic deed, Suguru Geto spoke of it only in a teasing tone.
It was as though saving the world was something ridiculous to him.
Among the many Jujutsu Sorcerers present, only Shoko Ieiri understood that this man, who had decided not long ago to slaughter every ordinary human, was the one least suited to saving the world.
But…
Shoko Ieiri raised her head, as though searching for the corpse of her other friend.
But the man who had disregarded everyone’s will and said he would handle everything himself was already dead.
"Found it!"
A Jujutsu Sorcerer at the front spoke, drawing everyone’s attention.
It was a skeleton clad in a white haori, seated on the ground. The clothing was very new, but all flesh and blood had vanished from the corpse, while the bones had turned black, as though it had existed here for countless years.
Suguru Geto walked forward, bit his finger, and drew a special symbol according to the method he had forced out of Tsuchimikado Ochiai.
The others began using the skeleton as a reference point, carefully measuring the surrounding ground.
No ritual formation would be entirely without pattern. There had to be some rule connecting every node. Once one node was found, the others would be easy to locate.
Seeing everyone searching so carefully, Shoko Ieiri felt that she should not remain so dazed. She casually chose a direction and walked into the darkness, with not the slightest fear on her face.
Suguru Geto noticed this, smiled, and headed in another direction.
High above, a reincarnator draped in white robes looked down at the Plot Characters and at Kai, who radiated a chilling aura. Her expression was calm.
Her limbs were bound by blood red chains, while a huge phantom flickered in and out of sight behind her.
And even higher above her.
A tall man stood with his arms spread wide, as if blocking something behind him. Yet within the Six Eyes that should have reflected blue skies and white clouds, there was only lifeless silence.
Satoru Gojo was connected all over by those blood red chains. It was as though something was trying to drag him into the void, or as though something was about to emerge from the darkness. But Satoru Gojo held the chains tight, preventing that door from opening.
White Face’s gaze shifted before finally settling on Satoru Gojo.
"Tch, so this is the so-called strongest of the current era…"
"Because he is the strongest of this era, he has to protect this era. What utterly unreasonable bandit logic."
"But soon… I will obtain everything and step into that realm…"
Suddenly, her expression changed slightly. One segment of the chain on her right hand snapped, and at the same time, one segment of the chain behind Satoru Gojo broke as well.
She immediately realized that those Plot Characters had learned the secret of the ritual.
Sure enough, the Tsuchimikado Clan had left behind a contingency. Unfortunately, she had needed the bloodline of Tsuchimikado Clan members to activate the ritual, so she had been unable to kill them all beforehand.
At a thought, a spark suddenly appeared in the air. It was the result of something invisible rubbing against the air through its very existence and producing a reaction.
Whoosh!
Azure Flames ignited out of thin air, hanging in midair and drifting up and down. Only then did a gigantic fox begin to emerge behind those Azure Flames.
The fox was snow-white all over, with icy blue pupils. It gave off an aura that was less holy than eerie.
The instant the fox appeared, the surrounding Grudge Spirits began burning out of nowhere, screaming as they dissipated.
"Fox Fire, go. Burn every last one of them to ashes!"
The enormous fox, over three meters long, moved without making a sound, and did not even disturb the air. At White Face’s command, its form vanished again.
Only those three Azure Flames drifted faintly through the darkness.
Before long, Suguru Geto suddenly heard a cry of alarm. Turning around, he saw several curse users he had brought engulfed in Azure Flames.
No matter how their cursed energy surged, the flames could not be extinguished. By the time the fire faded, they had already collapsed to the ground, devoid of life.
Suguru Geto suddenly felt a stabbing pain in his back. At a thought, a massive cursed spirit burst from the ground and swallowed him whole.
The next moment, three ghostly flames lit up, and the huge special-grade cursed spirit instantly caught fire.
Pfft!
Suguru Geto tore open the cursed spirit’s belly and flipped away, dodging from behind.
A special-grade cursed spirit had been killed instantly without even putting up a proper resistance.
This kind of power…
His thoughts stirred. Looking back at the corpses, he saw that their bodies had remained intact and immediately understood the issue.
"Be careful. The enemy can attack souls directly."
Mei Mei, the grade-one Jujutsu Sorcerer whose long hair covered her face, immediately leapt backward and spread her hands. Countless crows emerged from the darkness, densely covering nearly half the sky.
Moments later, Azure Fox Fire ignited again.
Using her ability to control black crows with her Divine Wind, she pinpointed the enemy’s location, and the others immediately unleashed their techniques.
Cursed energy erupted in an instant.
At the same time, Kai sensed the change in the environment, and his thoughts stirred.
"White Face’s Possessed Spirit has moved. That bitch really is in trouble."
He immediately began running, and the others had no choice but to follow.
Kai’s movements were simple and forceful. As he ran, every punch he threw produced a terrifying sound like artillery shells blasting from their barrels.
Neither Grudge Spirits nor cursed spirits could contend with the power of those waves.
Kai was tracking White Face. Perhaps this was his final chance to defeat her!
Fifth Element had originally been a much larger team, but during a previous mission, Fifth Element had encountered White Face’s team.
Kai had not wanted to offend this elite reincarnator who had been taken under the wing of a Supreme Expert, so he had negotiated with her to complete the mission together while separately hunting the other reincarnator teams that had entered that world.
But at the end of the mission, White Face had suddenly turned on them without warning, leaving Fifth Element severely depleted.
Of the original group of nine veterans, only Kai, Youjiu, Old Ghost, and a few others remained. In the following mission world, Kai had ambushed White Face, severely reducing the numbers of White Face’s team as well.
Thus, a feud had formed between them.
But the weight of the dead was entirely different to the two of them, which meant this battle would not be the end.
When Kai learned that White Face had previously laid out a terrifying scheme in this world and could use it to advance into the Fierce-tier, there was no way he could stand by and let her succeed.
Their strength had once been fairly close. If White Face advanced any further, Fifth Element would likely be completely annihilated.
Kai had sold off the team’s resources, determined to destroy White Face’s plans in this world.
As he thought, Kai suddenly sensed a trace of an aura. He abruptly raised his head. Sure enough, as the battle on both sides erupted in full, vast numbers of Grudge Spirits died.
And the Plot Characters seemed to have destroyed ritual nodes, greatly weakening this space’s ability to interfere with perception.
Kai sensed it—the unique aura belonging only to White Face.
That peculiar, nauseating aura, the kind that made everyone unconsciously focus their attention on her, was no exception now. It instantly allowed Kai to locate White Face.
Kai saw that White Face’s hands and feet were all bound by blood red chains and knew that she was likely in bad condition at the moment.
He pressed his hands together, twisted his body, and drew them back to his waist.
Intense waves surged through his hands.
Hadouken!
