Chapter 1329: Unpredictable
The next morning, Creston, who had been tossing and turning all night, was exhausted, his eyes bloodshot, and he leaned tiredly on the leather sofa.
Banks stood opposite him, his expression also becoming incredibly heavy, no longer possessing the confidence and swagger of yesterday.
Creston asked, "How is it at the maximum-security prison? Have you investigated thoroughly? Was it really Ye Bufan who did it?"
Banks replied, "I've already asked and checked the surveillance footage there. Ye Bufan was sleeping all night and didn't make any movements."
As the head of the Brown Family, Creston was still very suspicious and asked again, "Did you go check? Sometimes surveillance can't be trusted."
Banks nodded, "I did go ask. I even had Big Beard the prison guard interrogate him once to confirm that the person sleeping was indeed Ye Bufan."
"Since that's the case, he himself can be ruled out," Creston said, then asked, "What about his subordinates and company members in Apple City? Are they suspected?"
"The security department has already dispatched special personnel to monitor them. These people stayed at home obediently last night and made no unusual moves, so it definitely wasn't them."
Creston thought for a moment and suddenly asked, "Ye Bufan brought many Chinese doctors from China this time. Have you paid attention to their side? Could it be someone among them?"
"That's impossible. Those people are all old men in their seventies and eighties; they have no combat power at all."
Creston shook his head, "You must be careful about this. I heard that the Heaven Rank Experts in China tend to get more powerful the older they are."
Banks was a bit exasperated; it seemed his father had become somewhat paranoid because of this assassin.
"Father, I also installed surveillance at the Chinese medicine practitioners' residence. Those people were sleeping all night, and there were indeed no unusual movements."
Creston leaned his head back against the sofa, murmuring in thought, "This is strange. An assassin with such superb skills should at least have a Heaven Rank cultivation.
And Orlando just called me; their side also suffered an assassin's attack, and he lost a Grandson, which means there are at least two people on the other side.
How did that guy named Ye manage it? He actually has so many Heaven Rank Experts under him, and he brought them to Apple City silently."
Banks thought for a moment and asked, "Father, do you think it's possible that the Lawrence Family sent people to do this?"
"That's not possible," Creston shook his head. "Firstly, the Lawrence Family's strength is comparable to ours; they wouldn't have that many super-strong Heaven Rank Experts.
Secondly, we have insiders on their side. If there's any disturbance, we'd see some signs immediately. There's no feedback from them now, so it definitely wasn't the Lawrence Family who acted."
"Father, what should we do then?"
At this point, Banks had lost his confidence.
"What else can we do? Strengthen our defenses. Tonight, gather all core Family members into one room. No outsiders are allowed in, and reinforce the defenses outside the room.
I refuse to believe the other party is truly a deity; they can't complete an assassination under these circumstances."
"I understand, Father."
Following Creston's instructions, by night, more than thirty core members of the Brown Family were all gathered in one large hall.
And before that, Banks had already arranged for people to seal all the windows with thick iron plates, and at the same time, replace the doors with the heaviest and most advanced high-strength security doors.
Outside the room, all of the Brown Family's Heaven Rank Experts guarded the room, and beyond them were gunmen with live ammunition. These people rotated every 8 hours, guarding continuously without any break.
The Field Family was in a similar situation, adopting the same strategy.
First, they hid dozens of core members in an extremely sturdy room. Some Family members even wore bulletproof vests and donned sturdy steel helmets and protective gear.
For a time, everyone in the Family felt insecure, hoping to get through the night safely.
Orlando sat on a sofa in the center, with his other sons and Grandsons gathered around him.
Everyone was incredibly nervous, their eyes wide like light bulbs as they observed their surroundings, fearing that the assassin would suddenly appear and take their lives.
Time passed minute by minute; everything around them was calm, with no movement or incident.
"Actually, I don't think everyone needs to be so nervous. The entire room is sealed, like an iron barrel. Let alone an assassin, not even a mosquito could get in. We don't need to be this scared."
It was Orlando's Grandson, Eric, who spoke. After he finished, everyone thought about it and realized it made sense.
While the other party might have had an opportunity at yesterday's banquet, that was no longer the case. The room was full of core Family members, with no outsiders, and the door was sealed shut. The other party had no chance of getting in.
"Um, I need to use the restroom."
It was Daniel, Orlando's third son, who spoke. His extreme nervousness had given him a strong urge to urinate, and he turned and walked towards the nearby restroom.
No one paid much attention, as the restroom was indoors, and there would be no danger in such a situation.
But after Daniel entered the restroom, he didn't come out for a long time.
Orlando instantly sensed something was wrong and immediately waved his hand, "Go see what's going on. Why hasn't Daniel come out yet?"
Daniel's wife was the first to rush over. She knocked on the restroom door, but there was still no sound from inside.
Then she pulled the door open and found her husband collapsed in the restroom, bleeding from all seven orifices, completely lifeless.
"Help! Daniel is dead!"
At her cry, everyone rushed into the restroom.
Besides Daniel's corpse, there was another small note on the mirror opposite: "Today's mission complete. Continuing tomorrow."
"Damn it, is he a devil? How did he get in?"
Upon seeing that note, everyone's hearts were consumed by fear, and they even forgot to care about Daniel's death.
Only one question remained in their minds: Daniel died today, will it be me tomorrow?
Facing such a terrifying assassin, how could they defend themselves, how could they find a way to preserve their lives?
When Orlando saw this situation, he stood there dumbfounded. As an old fox, he experienced the feeling of being helpless for the first time.
Logically, since it was his sons and Grandsons who were dying one after another, he should have been sad, but at this moment, his greater feeling was one of crisis, and even more, fear.
What should he do next? Should he just watch the Field Family be completely slaughtered by the other party?
But he also knew that now was not the time to panic. If even he lost his composure, the entire Family would probably collapse.
He took a deep breath, calmed himself, then waved his hand and said, "Open the door and dispose of Daniel's body first."
Since the other party killed one person each day, and today's mission was already completed, they wouldn't strike again.
Everyone fell into a brief moment of relaxation again, opened the door, and carried Daniel's body out.
This time, Orlando even skipped the step of searching for the killer. With the other party's skill, searching would be utterly useless.
He beckoned to his second son, Harry, and then returned to his room.
