Chapter 40: Death

Of course, here we are talking about truly dying, not the kind of dying and coming back to life that Cage experienced.

Besides Cage himself, who endured inhumane training and the painful experiences of injury, disability, and being killed by Rita, two other Individuals were also suffering!

One was Omega, the source of time resets.

Although Omega could reset time, this power wasn't to be used casually; each use consumed a certain amount of energy.

Under Cage's repeated consumption, Omega finally sensed that something was wrong.

The war hadn't even started, and Alpha's position was completely safe, so how could the conditions for a time reset have been met?

After much thought, Omega figured out the reason.

It must be a non-Alpha Individual that it mistakenly identified as Alpha due to some factor.

In response, Omega directly set a trap to lure out the culprit.

It transmitted coordinates to all “Alpha” Individuals, and Cage naturally received the information about those coordinates.

Moreover, the information was quite comprehensive.

The other one, of course, was Godzilla.

This was also the time Godzilla arrived, just a few hours before the war officially broke out.

If Godzilla had arrived a few hours earlier, the torment would have been several times worse!

Godzilla, however, considered it all trivial.

Nothing could move him anymore.

It was just a time reset, wasn't it?

It couldn't harm him anyway, but if he found an opportunity, he would make Omega understand what cruelty truly meant!

— After an unknown number of time resets, Cage woke up again, vaguely seeing some images.

This feeling was like someone forcibly holding his head, making him watch an old movie, with his eyelids pried open so he couldn't close them.

This feeling was extremely uncomfortable.

Even though he had died countless times, his head was still dizzy from the information being forcefully crammed in.

“!!!”

Cage suddenly sat up from a pile of luggage, startling the Master Sergeant who was about to wake him.

“Is this Omega's location?”

Cage immediately thought of this.

He found Rita again and explained the situation to her.

After confirming the situation, Rita immediately took Cage to see Dr. Carter.

On the way, Cage unknowingly walked ahead of Rita; he was far more familiar with this path than she was.

Upon finding Dr. Carter, Cage and Rita spoke one after another, leaving Dr. Carter no chance to interject.

After learning Omega's location, Dr. Carter was actually quite bewildered.

Despite his appearance, he was merely a Scientist with no combat ability; he was good at offering advice, but nothing else. The awkward part was, he didn't have any good ideas now either.

Because the “Omega location” that Cage had seen was simply too far away from them.

Without transportation, it would be difficult to reach it in a short amount of time.

More importantly, an offensive against the Alien creatures was about to be launched, and at this time, no one could escape from the military camp.

Unless you wanted to be branded a deserter.

The best way was to find an opportunity to sneak away on the battlefield.

But now another problem arose: would the monster that appeared an unknown number of time resets ago reappear?

Of course, if that monster really did reappear, there was no need to rush too much.

With so many people, they were just two of the most insignificant Individuals among them.

They wouldn't even register in the eyes of that behemoth.

But Cage's heart was still uneasy.

The prolonged time resets had given him an inexplicable premonition of danger.

But now, the opportunity to end this war was right before his eyes, and he couldn't just give up.

Most importantly, with the trump card of time reset, he had enough confidence to face everything!

When Godzilla saw the Land again, the initial surprise was no longer visible on his face.

He had seen this Land countless times during an unknown number of time resets.

But the number of times he actually landed was few and far between!

Well, only once.

Therefore, this time, Godzilla also didn't believe he would be able to Land.

However, as time passed, Godzilla was pleasantly surprised to discover that the time reset didn't come!

As Godzilla stepped onto the beach, enduring countless attacks from both humans and Alien creatures, he almost shed tears.

How many times had it been?

How many times had he returned to square one because of time resets?

Godzilla didn't want to count, and even if he tried, he couldn't.

With experience, Godzilla already knew how to find Cage.

First, if a person was acting independently, he was most likely Cage.

If that person wasn't wearing a helmet, then the probability would increase significantly.

And if there was a woman by that person's side, what else could that person be besides Cage?

Soon, Godzilla found two abnormally moving people in the vast crowd.

The movements of these two Individuals might not have been noticed by those around them, but Godzilla, looking down from above, immediately saw that these two were moving towards the edge of the battlefield.

It was them!

Godzilla ignored everyone else and strode directly towards his targets.

In just a few steps, Godzilla arrived in front of the two.

As Godzilla looked down at them, they coincidentally looked back at Godzilla.

“!!!”

At this moment, both Cage and Rita's hearts turned cold.

Looking at Godzilla curiously gazing down at them, they couldn't help but understand that they had been targeted.

Realizing this, Rita immediately reacted, drawing her pistol and preparing to deal with Cage.

“Wait, wait, wait!”

Seeing the gun pointed at him, Cage immediately raised his hands to stop Rita.

“What are you doing? Shouldn't we go back first and formulate a strategy at a time like this?”

Perhaps because she once possessed the ability of time reset, when Rita encountered difficulties, she subconsciously wanted to commit suicide and reset, then slowly figure out a way to overcome it.

If once didn't work, then twice; she would always find a way to overcome it.

And the facts proved that her method was indeed very effective!

“No, I have a feeling this Creature is looking for me. I must figure out why this Creature is looking for me. You wait, give me some—time—”

Before Cage finished speaking, a giant claw descended from the sky, landing exactly where Rita had been standing.

“—”

Looking at the giant claw in front of him, Cage opened his mouth, finding himself unable to say anything.

The person who had accompanied him for an unknown amount of time during his weakest moments, who had become his pillar, had just died before his eyes.

This was more painful than his own death!
