Chapter 56: Sleep
The Creatures and humans on the ice sheet all saw the massive head lower itself.
However, what differed was that the humans saw this head lower itself towards the direction of the Creatures.
In that instant, several possibilities flashed through their minds in a very short time.
Are they working together?
Is this a reunion?
Or is this Monster's purpose even simpler—it just wants to kill these Creatures?
Compared to the confused humans, the infected Creatures knew for certain that they absolutely did not know this guy.
This Monster was definitely an enemy, not a friend!
But even so, with the Monster's head practically in their faces, capable of swallowing them whole with just an open mouth, they didn't dare to move.
Godzilla's deterrence was simply too great!
Seeing that these infected Creatures didn't flee, Godzilla wouldn't be polite with them; he opened his mouth, and a blue beam shot out.
It was, of course, the Atomic Breath!
These infected Creatures vanished instantly, dying without any pain.
After all these snarling infected Creatures were dead, Godzilla turned his head to look at the other side.
Although before Godzilla arrived, these people were clearly divided into two factions.
But in reality, there was still an infected Creature lurking among the humans.
At this moment, when the as-yet-unexposed infected Creature saw Godzilla turn his head to look over, it instinctively felt that Godzilla was looking at him.
And his feeling was not wrong.
So, Godzilla sent him to his demise with another Atomic Breath.
From then on, all the infected Creatures were killed by Godzilla.
Just as Godzilla was about to return to his own world, he suddenly paused.
Although all the infected Creatures had been killed, no one could guarantee that those Creatures were truly all dead.
Godzilla suddenly turned his head to look at the few surviving humans, startling them.
Godzilla suddenly thought that although these few humans hadn't been infected yet, there was no guarantee they didn't still carry some residual tissue or something similar.
If that were the case, wouldn't Godzilla's efforts this time have been in vain?
So, Godzilla dealt with these humans as well, and incidentally, he also thoroughly destroyed the surrounding camp a bit more.
Just ordinary fire, Godzilla worried it wouldn't burn cleanly; his own Atomic Breath was what he trusted.
After doing all this, Godzilla submerged back beneath the ice.
And beneath the ice, he carved out a spacious area, intending to create a "Monster Factory" there as well.
And the mission of this "Monster Factory" was to produce Monsters that would hunt down those infected Creatures!
After much thought, this was the most reliable method Godzilla could conceive.
After all, Godzilla couldn't just leave this world unattended.
If the infected Creatures in other corners of this world went out of control, then cleaning them up would be truly troublesome.
Godzilla stayed in this world for several months, and only left after the "Monster Factory" was fully mature.
Upon returning to his own world, Godzilla immediately fell into a deep sleep in the temple built for him by the Engineers.
He needed a long time for his G-cells to undergo another metamorphosis.
Of course, Godzilla didn't know if the final result would truly lead to the evolution of the G-cells.
He always had a premonition that the G-cells, having evolved multiple times, still lacked sufficient accumulation for another evolution.
But it was undeniable that Godzilla's G-cells had grown stronger.
When Godzilla fell into a deep sleep, and all energy was supplied to the metamorphosis of the G-cells, the speed of the G-cells' metamorphosis accelerated by an unknown number of times!
This time, the G-cells absorbed the ability of mimicry from those infected Creatures.
Even without Godzilla's control, the G-cells themselves would instinctively perform the most advantageous mimicry.
For example, when their numbers were insufficient, they would mimic the appearance of their surroundings.
Or they might mimic other non-threatening Creatures to pass unnoticed.
Of course, they might even play dead!
These characteristics were undoubtedly much more complex than the infected Creatures' ability to mimic other Creature cells.
However, this was not surprising; G-cells themselves were very miraculous, not to mention having evolved multiple times.
After another metamorphosis, evolving more powerful abilities from the existing foundation was just a basic capability.
Not long after Godzilla fell into a deep sleep, most of the Watchers who had been gathered at the "Monster Factory" converged around Godzilla.
When Godzilla was in deep sleep, they served as a protective barrier for him.
Although Godzilla himself didn't really need protection.
In the past, when Godzilla slept, his body didn't undergo significant changes; at most, his body grew a bit.
Unless Godzilla actively adjusted his body, his body wouldn't change.
But this time, Godzilla's body underwent obvious changes.
Although his size hadn't changed at all, his body surface underwent a drastic transformation.
First, Godzilla's original ugly wrinkled skin gradually disappeared, replaced by a layer of folded scales, densely arranged and appearing very layered.
This layer of scales not only provided good defensive capabilities, but most importantly, it could better cooperate with the G-cells' mimicry ability to camouflage Godzilla.
And this camouflage was far more sophisticated than a chameleon's color camouflage.
These scales could directly make Godzilla blend in with his surroundings, making it impossible to distinguish any difference.
After all, with mimicry at the cellular level, the scales had directly changed from the inside out, so it would be strange if the naked eye could detect it.
Not just the naked eye, other methods might not be effective either.
If there was a flaw, it was the high-temperature red glow seeping from beneath the scales.
That was the high temperature from the Fusion Reactor!
When Godzilla woke up, he saw a greatly changed version of himself.
It must be said that, having shed his wrinkled skin, Godzilla no longer had his former ugly appearance and became even more majestic.
However, his deterrent power felt somewhat diminished.
After all, wrinkled skin looked much more terrifying than a body covered in scales, and was more likely to evoke fear.
But Godzilla didn't need this bit of fear, so he didn't care.
When Godzilla awakened, it also meant that all the G-cells in his body had completed their metamorphosis.
And the high-temperature red glow beneath the scales gradually receded.
The Fusion Reactor, which had always supplied energy to all the cells in his body, produced a large amount of high temperature.
As the energy supply stopped and the energy gradually converged, those red lights also gradually disappeared.
From a state that seemed to pierce the scales as if about to explode, it transitioned to looking like a light shining outwards from within.
Looking at it this way, the red glow still seemed — quite obvious.
