Disguise
Chen Haoran, the Firefighter Hero, was a seasoned Super Hero whose ability was controlling flames. Wang Bert had arranged for him to specialize in firefighting, making him essentially a firefighter with superpowers.
This kind of Super Hero naturally wasn’t as famous as combat-oriented Super Heroes like Electro or Spider-Man, but within New York State, the Firefighter Hero was quite popular because he had truly saved many people.
Moreover, Chen Haoran was approachable, so he had a stable group of admirers. His merchandise sold well, and he had landed quite a few fire-safety endorsements.
And now, this peaceable Firefighter Hero had been captured by Hydra’s Baron Strucker.
Lilith asked icily, "You actually dared to capture a Super Hero under Watchmen Company?"
"Why wouldn’t I dare? I won’t waste words with you. We’ll exchange hostages: the siblings for the Firefighter Hero."
Baron Strucker said, "If you refuse, I’ll publicly execute the Firefighter Hero. Then let’s see how your Blood God Group faces the citizens’ fury."
"You think we’re afraid of the citizens’ fury?"
Lilith said coldly. At that moment, Wang Bert’s voice rang out in her mind. "Agree to it."
"Not afraid of the citizens’ fury? Then are you afraid of civilian casualties? I’ve planted four super bombs in New York City. If you don’t agree, I’ll detonate them."
Baron Strucker said. He would never give up Wanda and her brother. On one hand, they were important; on the other, they knew a little too much.
Lilith stared coldly at Baron Strucker. After a moment, she said expressionlessly, "I can’t make that decision. I need to ask someone."
Baron Strucker laughed loudly. "Then go ask quickly. I’ll call you again in ten minutes."
Lilith coldly ended the communication. Then she turned to Wang Bert and asked, "Blood God, why are we accepting his deal? The Firefighter Hero isn’t important."
"The Firefighter Hero is a decent person. There’s no need to sacrifice him. Besides, sending Wanda back was part of the plan from the beginning."
Wang Bert rubbed his chin and said, "As for Pietro, he came at just the right time."
"I see. I know what to do."
Lilith no longer objected. Ten minutes later, she agreed to Baron Strucker’s demands, and the two sides began discussing the specifics of the hostage exchange.
Although Wang Bert intended to send Wanda and Pietro back, they still had to put on a show with this hostage exchange. Otherwise, the other side would not believe them.
"Let Steve command this. He’s good at this kind of thing."
Wang Bert chose to slack off without hesitation. Then he Teleported back to the manor, preparing to deal with Pietro.
In the Blood God Manor prison, Pietro was delighted when he saw Wanda enter. Then he grew suspicious and asked, "Sis, why does it feel like you’re not a prisoner?"
"The clothes, jewelry, and shoes she’s wearing together cost at least a million dollars. Of course she doesn’t look like a prisoner."
Mindy sneered. She and Lina were interested in Pietro’s abilities, so they had come to chat with him.
Wanda looked astonished. She knew her clothes were expensive, but she had not expected them to be this expensive.
A million dollars? Good heavens, how much bread could that buy?
"A million dollars?"
Pietro also sucked in a breath. Then he noticed the ring on Wanda’s left ring finger and cried out, "Sis, you got married? Wait, don’t tell me that incredibly powerful guy is keeping you?"
"Keeping me?"
Wanda froze, then flew into an embarrassed rage. A flash of red light slammed into Pietro, sending him crashing into the wall before he fell to the ground.
Pietro climbed up from the floor and shouted indignantly, "You actually hit me? I’m your own flesh-and-blood little brother!"
Wanda gritted her teeth. "If you weren’t my little brother, you’d already be lying there."
Mindy and Lina also noticed the ring on Wanda’s hand. Mindy lowered her voice, though everyone could hear her. "That’s Master’s ring. I remember it."
"A ring, on her ring finger?"
Lina thought for a moment, then asked, "Is this woman going to become our Master’s wife?"
Mindy muttered, "Very likely. But I don’t get it. She’s so fat, so why would Master like her?"
"Master’s wife?"
Wanda first looked shy, then became furious. Fat? How was she fat? She had a standard figure, all right? At such a young age, they were already lying. That was too much.
Wanda wanted to lose her temper, but remembering the current situation, she said gently, "Hello, I’m Blood God’s friend. Pietro isn’t a bad person. Can you give me some time to persuade him?"
Mindy glanced at Pietro and sneered. "He doesn’t look like a good person at all. He even kidnaps little girls."
Wanda glared at Pietro upon hearing that. How did I usually teach you? Pietro felt wronged. Wasn’t it all to save you? How was I supposed to know you were living in luxury here, wearing clothes worth over a million dollars? Lina asked expectantly, "Big Sister, can you let your brother be my delivery guy? He’s super fast. With him around, I can eat food from all over the city."
Pietro shouted in displeasure, "Are you insulting me? I’m Quicksilver! How could I be a delivery guy? I’m going to become the fastest man in the world."
"Lina, I told you he wouldn’t agree. Give up on that idea. And don’t beg Master for him later."
Mindy said, "Master treats us like his own daughters. That guy dared to kidnap us, so Master definitely won’t let him off. The lightest punishment would be Five Horses Dismemberment."
Lina cried out, "Five Horses Dismemberment? The one where five horses are tied to the limbs and head, then pull them apart by force?"
Mindy said, "That’s right, and that’s only the lightest punishment. Later, I’ll scrape a little skin off my hand and say that guy did it. Then Master might give him Death by a Thousand Cuts—real Death by a Thousand Cuts, not one cut less."
"Five Horses Dismemberment, Death by a Thousand Cuts?"
Pietro could not help swallowing. His face turned pale with fright, and he hurriedly shouted, "Sis, hurry and ask my brother-in-law to plead for me."
"Shut up."
Wanda was both embarrassed and angry. Another flash of red light struck Pietro in the chest, and he fell flat on his back.
"Are women who’ve gotten married all this bad-tempered?"
Pietro grumbled. Wanda’s face was so red it seemed ready to steam. She now felt that this bastard was better off locked in there.
Though she thought that, Wanda still cared for her brother in the end. She forced out a smile and said to Mindy and Lina, "Pietro really isn’t a bad person. As long as you’re willing to plead for him, I’ll have him work for you and help you buy takeout."
Wanda naturally knew Mindy and Lina were trying to scare Pietro, but if they really exaggerated things and set Pietro up, he definitely would not have a good ending. At the very least, he would get beaten up.
Kidnapping Blood God’s disciples was no small matter, so Wanda took the initiative to curry favor with the two little girls.
"Sis."
Pietro was deeply dissatisfied. Being a delivery guy had never been part of his life plan. He was supposed to be a youth as swift as the wind.
"Shut up."
Wanda snapped. Lina was overjoyed and said, "Then it’s settled. Don’t worry, we’ll definitely plead for him."
"Good, it’s settled."
Wanda let out a sigh of relief and said, "I want to talk to Pietro alone. Is that okay?"
"Sure."
Since Lina had gotten what she wanted, Mindy did not stay any longer and left with her. Before leaving, Lina even waved at her future delivery boy. Pietro hung his head in dejection, feeling as if his future was utterly dark.
After everyone left, Pietro asked unhappily, "Sis, what exactly are you doing? Don’t tell me you surrendered to S.W.O.R.D.?"
"It’s not surrendering. It’s abandoning darkness for the light. Pietro, we were wrong before. Hydra is the truly evil one. We have to help S.W.O.R.D. defeat them."
"So you’ve been corrupted by S.W.O.R.D.’s sugar-coated bullets."
Pietro glanced at Wanda and sneered. "Sis, have you forgotten how terrified we were back then? Have you forgotten how miserable the people of Sokovia were? It was all America’s fault, all Tony Stark’s fault.
"We must take revenge. Under Hydra’s leadership, we must build a fair new world."
"The people of Sokovia lived so miserably not because of America, but because of Hydra."
Wanda tried to persuade him. "Pietro, Blood God and the others are great. They want everyone in the world to live like the people of America."
"Wanda, you’ve been deceived. How could everyone in the world possibly live like Americans? Do you know how rich America is? The food they waste every year could feed several Sokovias."
Pietro said, "America is the root of all evil. They possess too many resources. Only by bringing them down can people around the world live good lives."
"That is one way, but there are other, better ways."
Wanda placed her glowing red finger against Pietro’s forehead. A memory appeared in Pietro’s mind—the memory of Wang Bert taking Wanda on a tour of Africa.
After processing the memory, Pietro fell silent. After a moment, he said, "Sis, you’ve fallen for that guy, haven’t you?"
Wanda was both embarrassed and angry. She grabbed Pietro by the ear and pulled upward as she said, "Is that what I let you see? I’m your sister. You have to listen to me, understand?"
"Let go, let go! It’s going to come off!"
Pietro hurriedly begged for mercy. Once Wanda released him, he immediately retreated, covering his ear as he said, "I get it. As long as you don’t make me a delivery boy, I’ll listen to you."
"If you don’t become a delivery boy, how will you calm Blood God’s anger?"
Wanda sighed. "Do you really think he’s your brother-in-law?"
"Sis, I think you could work harder on that."
"Get lost."
Wanda said angrily, "I’m going to ask Blood God to spare you. Behave yourself. Kidnapping his disciples really isn’t a small matter."
"Fine."
Pietro nodded first, then said expectantly, "Sis, can you get me something delicious? I want to try America’s sugar-coated bullets. A one-thousand—uh, one-hundred-dollar meal will do."
Wanda was speechless. Recalling the steak she had eaten before, she could not help swallowing. S.W.O.R.D.’s food was good, but how could it compare to top-grade wagyu flown in by air? Rich people really are too decadent.
Wanda shook her head and carefully left the prison—she was afraid of dirtying those expensive clothes.
Looking at Wanda, who had come to plead for someone, Wang Bert asked with a half-smile, "You want me to spare Pietro?"
"Yes, he’ll serve as your disciples’ delivery boy to make amends."
Wanda said, "Blood God, he only did it to save me. He isn’t a bad person. He even negotiated with Baron Strucker and demanded that Mindy and the others be released afterward."
Wang Bert neither confirmed nor denied it. He said, "Baron Strucker captured the Firefighter Hero and wants me to release you and Quicksilver."
Wanda froze for a moment, then said, "That works out perfectly. Pietro and I can go undercover in the Hydra base and make up for our mistakes while we’re at it."
"I trust you, but I don’t trust Pietro."
Wang Bert shook his head. He waved to stop Wanda from speaking and said, "He’s too impulsive. He isn’t a qualified undercover agent."
"Then I can go alone."
Wanda said. She felt that Blood God was keeping a hostage and was somewhat disappointed.
Wang Bert saw Wanda’s disappointment and smiled. "Your whole heart belongs to me. Do I need to keep a hostage?"
Wanda’s face immediately turned red, and she shouted unhappily, "Whose whole heart belongs to you? You’re a scumbag. I won’t fall for that."
"Of course, my brother-in-law’s sister."
Wang Bert smiled. "Don’t worry. That kid has called me brother-in-law so many times, so I definitely won’t mistreat him. I even sent him a bucket of fried chicken earlier. He ate it happily and kept saying it was delicious."
Wanda froze, her face becoming even redder. So there were surveillance cameras in the prison.
How embarrassing. He was satisfied just by eating fried chicken.
Wanda silently scolded him, but she also knew it was not Pietro’s fault. Their family had been so poor that they could not afford fried chicken. After joining Hydra, although Baron Strucker valued them, because they were experimental subjects, they could only eat nutritional meals every day.
Those researchers only ate unhealthy things like fried chicken themselves.
Wanda asked, "Then why won’t you let Pietro leave with me?"
"I already said it—he’s too impulsive. Do you think just anyone can be an undercover agent?"
Wang Bert said irritably, "Once Baron Strucker notices something, your lives will be in danger at any time. It wouldn’t matter if Pietro died. I wouldn’t feel bad. But if you died, I’d at least feel bad for one minute."
Wanda was quite happy at first, but upon hearing the end, she puffed out her cheeks and said, "Only one minute?"
"No, every minute."
Wang Bert said with a smile. Wanda felt her heart race. Lowering her head, she said, "If there’s only one, Baron Strucker won’t let it go."
"Don’t worry, there are two."
Wang Bert smiled faintly. His body rapidly changed, and in the blink of an eye, he became Pietro.
This body was formed from Dragon Soul and chi, and could change freely.
Wanda stared in shock at Wang Bert’s transformation. Then she suddenly realized and asked, "You’re going to disguise yourself as Pietro and go undercover with me?"
"Of course. How could I bear to let you take the risk alone?"
Wang Bert smiled.
Wanda felt as sweet as if she had eaten honey, but when she looked at Wang Bert’s face, her expression became strange. "Blood God, can you change back first? Whenever I look at this face, I want to punch him."
"You really are his biological sister."
Wang Bert changed back and said, "Tell me the details about Pietro, so we don’t expose any flaws."
Wanda asked, "Shouldn’t Pietro be the one telling you?"
Wang Bert smiled. "I prefer hearing it from you."
"You’re annoying."
Wanda was rather shy, but also a little sweet. As for him being a scumbag, she had long since thrown that to the back of her mind.
