Foodies Are Everywhere
Whether Li Feng or Berwyn could win depended on the kind of fighting style they chose.
In terms of strength, agility, and stamina, Li Feng might not have matched Steve, who could "fight you all day," but he could at least go toe-to-toe with the Winter Soldier.
Against an ordinary person who was merely strong, like Berwyn, it went without saying.
So long as Li Feng dragged the fight into a battle of attrition, he could exhaust Berwyn to death.
But—
Li Feng had only practiced swordsmanship when he had been weak, purely for self-defense. As his strength grew, he had never trained his technique at all.
So if Berwyn made full use of his skills and launched a fierce assault, Li Feng could only rely on his extraordinary reflexes to dodge. Other than that, he would be at a loss.
Unfortunately, Berwyn did not know how terrible Li Feng’s technique was. All he knew was that the Scythe in Li Feng’s hand whistled through the air, clearly packed with tremendous force. One hit would wound him, and even a graze could kill him.
Moreover, terrified of being turned into a sheep, Berwyn could not focus on the fight. He forcibly let Li Feng drag what had been a favorable opening into a battle of attrition.
Of course, as Berwyn’s stamina steadily drained and his thoughts gradually calmed after he cast off his fear, he slowly understood Li Feng’s intentions.
The other man was using him to hone his skills.
Did I fucking become a whetstone?
Unfortunately, by the time Berwyn realized it, it was already too late.
His fight with the giant dragon had consumed a great deal of stamina. When he had been forced to fight Li Feng, he had not had enough strength left to begin with.
Now that Li Feng had dragged things out for so long, did he still want to mount a counterattack and fight for his life? Dream on.
He could only watch helplessly as his attacks grew slower and slower, until he finally watched the Scythe sweep toward his neck.
Just as Li Feng was about to end the battle and take Berwyn’s head in the next second, the giant dragon beside them spat out a blast of Dragon Breath, interrupting Li Feng’s rhythm.
Berwyn immediately retreated several steps, escaping the deadly Scythe. He touched his neck in terror while panting heavily, staying alert for Li Feng to suddenly attack again.
Seeing that the chance to kill him had slipped away, Li Feng coldly withdrew the Scythe. He slowly turned toward the giant dragon and asked in an unreadable tone, "Little guy, do you want to fight me too?"
Licking his lips, Li Feng ignited his entire body with spirit fire. Carrying the Scythe over his shoulder, he chuckled. "Perfect. I’ve never tasted dragon meat before. Don’t worry. Once I slaughter you, I’ll turn you into a Mummy Dragon and make you my mount."
Sensing how terrifying the flames around Li Feng were, the giant dragon instinctively backed away a few steps. Gritting its teeth, it lowered its head and said, "Respected powerhouse, I am willing to offer my flesh and blood in exchange for Mr. Berwyn’s life—if I still have any flesh and blood after I die."
At the side, Scarface stared blankly at the giant dragon with her mouth hanging open. "Have you gone mad?"
The giant dragon gently shook its head, looked up at the sky, and smiled. "Maybe I have. But this is also my chance."
Scarface followed the giant dragon’s gaze toward the sky. She understood what it intended to do.
Long ago, before humans had appeared, dragons already lived upon the land beneath their feet.
After humanity appeared, a wise dragon took pity on the hardships of human existence. He gathered all dragons and had them swear an oath to protect humanity for generations.
After the wise dragon died, he became stars in the sky and formed the dragons’ Heaven, giving dragons a place to rest after death.
However, not every dragon could enter Heaven after dying. They had to earn it themselves.
Once a Dragon failed to enter Heaven, its spirit would vanish, as though it had never existed in the world at all.
The giant dragon now trading its flesh and blood for Berwyn’s life was protecting Berwyn and using its spirit of sacrifice to earn the right to enter Dragon Heaven.
But wasn’t the gamble a little too great? What if it failed?
Even if it succeeded, the giant dragon would take all its flesh and blood with it when it ascended to Heaven. When Li Feng realized he had been tricked, it would be a miracle if he did not fly into a rage. Berwyn would still be hunted down.
Just as Scarface wanted to persuade the giant dragon not to do anything foolish, it looked in Einon’s direction and said softly, "My sins run too deep. Perhaps death would be a release for me."
But Einon’s cruelty has nothing to do with you. You’re a victim too…
Yet since the giant dragon had already said this much, Scarface said nothing more. After all, this was its choice. She did not even know whether she herself could enter Heaven, so what right did she have to persuade it otherwise?
From now on, I’ll be the only living member of the dragon race… Scarface silently lowered her head and lay prostrate before the giant dragon to show her respect.
Li Feng scratched his head, glanced at Berwyn, who was staring dumbly at the giant dragon, and waved for him to get lost. As he walked toward Scarface, he said, "I hate people like you who aren’t afraid of death the most." After a pause, Li Feng sighed. "But I also admire people like you who aren’t afraid of death the most. Before I change my mind, get lost too."
As he spoke, Li Feng climbed onto Scarface’s back and signaled for her to find somewhere nearby with beautiful scenery.
The giant dragon, which had already prepared itself for death, stared at Li Feng in astonishment when he spared it. After all, who wanted to die if they could live?
Hearing that Li Feng wanted to find a scenic place to camp, the giant dragon hurriedly pointed toward the direction of its former lair. "There’s a waterfall over there. No one usually comes to disturb the place, and there are plenty of Beasts nearby."
Water and food. It did sound pretty good. Li Feng curled his lip and signaled Scarface to take off.
When the giant dragon saw Li Feng really leave, it let out a heavy sigh of relief. Then Berwyn’s incomparably complicated voice sounded behind it.
"Why did you save me?"
The giant dragon turned to Berwyn and grinned. "Why didn’t you take the chance to leave? Aren’t you afraid that powerhouse will change his mind?"
"Why did you save me?" Berwyn stubbornly asked. Unless he understood why the giant dragon had risked its life to save him, Berwyn felt that he would never sleep peacefully for the rest of his life.
A warrior famous for slaying dragons had actually been saved by one. What kind of nonsense was that?
The giant dragon clearly did not want to explain. It shook its head and said, "I’m tired of hiding in caves and waiting for one dragon slayer after another to come for fame or money. I also don’t want to grope alone through the darkness toward an uncertain future. I have an idea that can benefit us both."
Berwyn stared at the giant dragon without saying a word. His mind was a mess, and he simply could not understand the bizarre idea of the dragon before him. But since it would not explain, there was nothing he could do.
After holding it in for a long while, Berwyn pressed his right hand to his chest and gave the giant dragon a deep bow. Straightening up, he asked, "What do you need me to do?"
The giant dragon smiled faintly. "We cooperate. I’ll pretend to attack villages, and you’ll pretend to be a dragon slayer who happens to pass by. That way, you won’t lose your job because there are no dragons left to kill, and I can witness the changes in this world and broaden my horizons."
Berwyn thought it over. Whether it was because the dragon race was nearly extinct or because this dragon had risked its life to protect him, he decided to cooperate with it.
"Fine," Berwyn said firmly.
While Berwyn and the giant dragon went around deceiving people, Li Feng, who had settled near the waterfall, finally figured out after some testing that dragon blood did possess mysterious power—but that power was useless to him.
Dragon blood could only slightly improve an ordinary person’s physical condition. Note that it improved an ordinary person’s body.
As for Li Feng, he had Mana in his body, and he had tempered his body with Mana. His ability to absorb energy had long surpassed the level of ordinary people.
So the improvement dragon blood could provide was negligible to him. The gains he got from tempering his body with Mana for a single day were greater than what dragon blood could offer.
Of course, Li Feng also understood that the root of it all was that Scarface was simply too weak. If it were the blood of that wise one who had become Heaven, the effect would probably be entirely different.
Should I raise Scarface? Wait until she’s fattened up, then bleed her?
Li Feng stroked his chin and circled Scarface, reaching out to touch here and knocking there.
By the time Scarface had goosebumps all over from Li Feng’s appraisal and kept swallowing nervously, Li Feng looked at her with utter disdain. "You’re fucking weak."
As for the plan to raise Scarface, Li Feng decided to forget it after thinking it over. With the resources and effort needed to raise her, he might as well improve his own strength.
Besides, he might encounter a stronger giant dragon during his next transmigration. When that happened, he could just capture it and drain its blood.
I’m so sorry my strength is so pathetic, Scarface complained weakly in her heart. Then she happily swished her tail and said, "Boss, the lunch bell has rung. What do you want to eat today? I’ll catch it for you."
Hearing Scarface’s fawning tone, Li Feng felt that tempting her with food in the first place had been practically suicidal. She eats way too much!
"Eat my ass. You already eat five meals a day! What else can you do besides eat?" Though he complained, Li Feng was hungry too. He rummaged through the shoulder bag and took out several herbs, rolling his eyes as he said, "What I have in my bag are Magical Herbs, not barbecue seasonings."
Before Li Feng could finish, Scarface’s bright eyes fixed on the Magical Herbs as drool dripped from her mouth. She quietly argued, "Herbs can be eaten, meat can be eaten, so they’re both food. They taste even better together. Why aren’t they seasonings?"
Li Feng’s eye twitched. Should I really bring this foodie Dragon back to the Marvel Universe? Five meals a day, with one sheep per meal—will she eat me into poverty?
And that’s with my cooking. If it were food made by Kreacher, Scarface could probably eat five sheep in one meal, the kind where she wouldn’t even be willing to spit out the bones.
Rubbing his forehead, Li Feng waved in exasperation, telling Scarface to go into the mountains and catch some prey. At the same time, he stared at the herbs in his hand and said, "There’s only this much seasoning left—ptui, only this much medicinal herb left. Once we finish these, don’t even think about eating delicious food anytime soon."
Scarface did not care about the future. Right now, she only wanted something delicious.
Besides, "anytime soon" was nothing to a creature that measured even sleep in years and months. Li Feng’s short term was not even enough time for her to take a nap.
Having received Li Feng’s permission to catch whatever she wanted, Scarface drooled as she imagined what prey to catch. She beat her wings hard and flew into the sky.
Wild rabbits taste good, but they’re too small. How great would it be if wild rabbits could grow as large as wild boars? One would be enough. How about roasted wild boar today? It’s big and filling.
Thinking of an entire wild boar floating over charcoal under Li Feng’s magic, slowly turning as it roasted, its golden and crispy skin glistening with beads of oil, while Li Feng evenly spread medicinal herbs over it, its fragrance wafting everywhere—
I can’t take it anymore. Scarface wiped away her drool. Decided. Today, I’m eating two roasted wild boars.
