Kindness?

By the waterfall.

Several massive stones glowed red from the heat, radiating scorching temperatures that warped the air around them.

Above the stones, two wild boars roasted to a golden brown slowly turned under Li Feng’s control.

Beside them, Scarface, already starving to the point of collapse, smelled the enticing aroma and kept drooling from the corners of her mouth. Li Feng’s eyelids twitched as a line of poetry repeatedly surfaced in his mind.

A waterfall plunges straight down three thousand feet.

Damn it, should I roast Scarface instead? This thing looks plump and juicy. Feeling that Scarface had thoroughly disgraced him, Li Feng covered his face and sprinkled the ground herbs over the two boars. "Scarface, you can’t even resist food of this level? Aren’t you embarrassed? If you’re going to crave something, at least crave top-tier cuisine."

"Like the wine you drank before?" Scarface asked, wiping away her drool.

Li Feng’s face darkened as he roared inwardly: I only brought this little beer, and more than half of it went into your belly. Have you ever considered how my craving for alcohol feels?

With a sigh, Li Feng said weakly, "As a girl, you should learn to be sentimental. It’s one thing to spend all day thinking about food, but what’s with constantly thinking about drinking? Aren’t you afraid you won’t find a mate someday?"

Scarface covered her ears with her front paws, looking as though she was saying, "I’m not listening to this bastard chant scriptures." Her eyes remained fixed on the boars as she retorted, "What’s so good about being sentimental? Boar and wine taste far better. As for mates, our dragon race is nearly extinct. Who am I supposed to find as a mate? And even if I found one, so what? What if I had dragon babies? Would an old woman like me have to watch her children grow old and die alone? Wouldn’t that poor child be too miserable? So I’ve decided to use delicious food and wine to fill my heart for the rest of my life."

Your words about thinking for your children’s sake make so much sense that I can’t even refute them. But what kind of logic is using food and wine to fill your heart? Do you know how precious my wheat is? You’re planning to eat me into poverty.

While grumbling inwardly, Li Feng suddenly looked up at the distant sky. A few seconds later, he pointed at a small black dot steadily approaching through the air. "We have a guest."

Scarface glanced in the direction he pointed, then turned back to stare at the boars and drool. Frowning, she said, "Why is he here? He’s not here to steal my boar, is he? No, it’s mine. No one is allowed to take it."

As soon as she finished speaking, Scarface grabbed one of the freshly roasted boars and stuffed it into her mouth without caring whether it would burn her.

Like Zhu Bajie eating a ginseng fruit, she hurriedly chewed a few times and swallowed it before quickly reaching for the remaining boar.

Li Feng’s mouth twitched. He hurriedly used magic to snatch back a hind leg, fanning the scalding meat in his mouth with one hand while pointing at Scarface’s nose and cursing, "You damn glutton, you even dared to steal my share? Mm, delicious."

As Li Feng happily ate, the black dot in the sky drew closer and gradually revealed the outline of a dragon, as well as a red-haired woman tied to a wooden stake clutched in the dragon’s front claws.

The dragon landed before Li Feng with an awkward expression and said respectfully, "Mage, we meet again."

Li Feng tore off a bite of pork without the slightest concern for appearances and asked through a mouthful of food, "What are you here for? Aren’t you afraid I’ll kill you?"

"Uh… you wouldn’t kill me for no reason, because I can sense the kindness in your heart." The dragon scratched his head, casually set the red-haired woman aside, and smiled sheepishly. "I followed the smell of food here."

The moment the dragon finished speaking, Scarface glared at him and stuffed all the remaining boar into her mouth. "Mine, it’s all mine. No one is allowed to eat it."

After spending several days with Scarface, Li Feng had long understood what she was like around food. He did not care whether she was embarrassing herself in front of outsiders; his own dignity was not much better than hers anyway. But…

Someone actually called me kind. That’s a first. Li Feng’s lips curled slightly. He gave the dragon a look that said, "You have good taste," then pointed at the red-haired woman and asked curiously, "Who’s this broad?"

Tilting his head, Li Feng examined the red-haired woman and guessed, "I heard dragons can use Transfiguration, so did you snatch yourself a wife? Congratulations on settling down. By the way, I still don’t know your name, or what you look like in human form."

Before the dragon could say anything, the red-haired woman, still shaken by fright, looked at the dragon in terror. Her mind was filled with the words "dragon wife," along with one thought: It’s over. My life is ruined from now on.

If a human got pregnant with a dragon’s child, would she give birth to a person or an egg? It couldn’t be a lump of flesh, could it?

Scarface, who had swallowed the pork and was still savoring it, heard Li Feng’s words. She thrust her fierce face close to the red-haired woman and sniffed her. Only after the woman’s face turned pale did Scarface turn to the dragon and ask curiously, "Are you playing the game where an evil dragon steals a princess and waits for a hero to rescue her?"

But I’m not a princess, so am I still going to be a dragon wife? The red-haired woman carried the wooden stake on her back and instinctively jumped behind Li Feng in his human form. With tears in her voice, she pleaded pitifully, "Please, save me. I don’t want to marry a dragon."

She had figured it out. There might be two dragons in front of her, but Li Feng was definitely the strongest one present. Besides, the dragon called him "Mage." He was a mage, so he couldn’t possibly be a bad person, right? After all, she had fallen asleep listening to tales of Mage Merlin when she was little.

Mages in stories were always good people.

And she remembered Li Feng asking the dragon earlier whether he was afraid of being killed. That meant Li Feng had the strength to slay dragons.

As for Scarface, the red-haired woman assumed she was probably Li Feng’s pet.

Wasn’t it perfectly normal for a mage to keep a dragon as a pet…

Li Feng glanced at the red-haired woman behind him, then turned back to the dragon and heard him say helplessly, "My name is Jack now. I can’t use Transfiguration, and I have no intention of taking a human as a mate."

Jack looked at the red-haired woman hiding behind Li Feng with only half her head exposed, his big eyes full of grievance: Little one, don’t let my fierce appearance fool you. The one next to you is far more ruthless than I am.

"She is my sacrifice," Jack explained.

Scarface blinked and asked in confusion, "A sacrifice? What do you need a sacrifice for? We don’t eat people."

Jack shrugged. "I’m working with Berwyn now. I pretend to be an evil dragon attacking villages, while Berwyn pretends to be a righteous Knight who kills me. But there was an accident today. The villagers had no money to pay the dragon-slaying fee, so they offered her as a sacrifice to please me. But she’s useless to me, so I was going to find somewhere to let her go. Then, while flying, I caught the scent of food."

The red-haired woman stared blankly at Jack: There’s so much information in what this dragon just said. I need to sort it out. First, this so-called dragon-slaying hero is actually a fraud. I can understand that, since humans are full of frauds. But what does it mean for a dragon to cooperate with a fraud?

Scarface craned her neck to look around, blinking in puzzlement. "Since you’re working with Berwyn, where is Berwyn?"

Berwyn? Jack froze for a moment, then cried out in dismay, "Oh no! I smelled the food and forgot Berwyn back in the village."

So, are you also a glutton, or are all dragons gluttons? Li Feng bit into pork that was now at just the right temperature and texture, then pointed into the distance. "I hear horses running. I’m guessing Berwyn came looking for you."

Jack immediately looked in the direction Li Feng pointed. Before long, he saw Berwyn, drenched in sweat, riding toward them on horseback.

Jack said happily, "Oh, that’s great. I was worried something might have happened to him."

At that moment, Berwyn also saw Li Feng’s group, but he was panicking. After all, the memories of being turned into a sheep and coming face-to-face with death were still vivid in his mind.

Touching his neck and feeling his pulse, Berwyn gritted his teeth, steeled himself, and nervously approached Jack. With a painfully fake smile, he bowed and said, "Hello, Mage."

Seeing Berwyn’s entire body tense and his face covered in sweat, whether from fear or exhaustion, Li Feng nodded slightly in response to his greeting. "Relax. As long as you don’t provoke me, I won’t waste the effort killing you."

Berwyn smiled sheepishly, tugged on Jack, and quietly questioned the dragon, "What happened? Why did you come here? Do you know how worried I was when I couldn’t find you in the village?"

Hearing that Berwyn had been worried about him, Jack’s face lit up.

Most dragons liked to travel alone. And because they were naturally huge and had fierce faces, they did not fare well in this world that judged by appearances. Few dragons had ever experienced someone else’s concern.

This made Jack, experiencing concern for the first time, unable to stop himself from grinning broadly. "You were worried about me?"

Berwyn said irritably, "Of course. I had my weapons ready and was waiting for you with most of the villagers, but you never appeared in the sky. I had no idea where you were or when you would return—"

Before Berwyn could finish, Jack and Li Feng both looked into the distance.

Li Feng could only sense someone approaching, but Jack clearly knew who it was. After hurriedly throwing out, "He’s here," he prepared to run into the cave behind the waterfall to hide.

Li Feng froze for a moment, then grabbed Jack and asked in confusion, "Who’s here? Your enemy?"

"Einon," the dragon answered nervously. "I don’t want to see him."

The guy who has half your heart? Let me see what kind of person he is, to have gotten the Dragon Heart. Li Feng lightly snapped his fingers and turned everyone invisible. "Relax. He can’t see us."

Beside him, Berwyn’s expression grew complicated upon hearing that Einon was coming. He stared blankly into the distance.

Before long, Einon arrived at the waterfall with his hounds and guards. Puzzled, he said, "Strange. I clearly smelled the aroma nearby."

Waving his hand, Einon ordered the guards behind him, "Search the area. I want to know what delicious food is giving off such an enticing aroma. If you fail to find its source, all of you will be punished."

"Yes, Your Majesty." The guards accepted the order, dismounted, and scattered in all directions.

Seeing that Einon now spoke of punishing others at the drop of a hat, completely lacking the humility he had as a child, Berwyn stormed toward him and shouted angrily, "Einon!"

Li Feng looked at Berwyn speechlessly: Brother, you’re invisible.

After thinking it over, Li Feng simply dispelled Berwyn’s invisibility, exposing him before Einon. Then he folded his arms and waited to watch the show.

When Einon and the guards saw a human suddenly appear before them, they hurriedly surrounded Einon in fright, drawing their weapons and pointing them at Berwyn with terrified expressions.

Was this guy human or a ghost?

Einon narrowed his eyes at Berwyn, suppressing his inner shock as he spoke calmly. "Isn’t this my childhood swordsmanship teacher? What, are you teaching students here?"

If I say I’m teaching students, wouldn’t that tell you there are others here? Berwyn looked coldly at Einon. "Put away your little schemes. It’s just me here."
