Shame? How Much a Pound?
Although the Dragon’s hind legs were tangled in the thick rope Berwyn held, its muscles were not just for show. It had plenty of brute strength.
The Dragon forcibly tore the saddle off the horse and dragged Berwyn, still seated on it, along the ground, letting him experience the thrill of land surfing.
To give Berwyn an even better surfing experience, the Dragon spared no effort in dragging him into the woods.
After Berwyn slammed face-first into trees several times, leaving him bruised, swollen, and covered in purple and blue marks, he finally found an opportunity to wedge the saddle into a Y-shaped tree trunk.
Unable to uproot the tree, the Dragon finally collapsed to the ground.
Seeing stars and double images of everything before him, Berwyn shakily drew his Crusader Sword and staggered toward the Dragon.
With its hind legs still bound by the thick rope, the Dragon realized it could not escape in time. It gritted its teeth and stopped running, using the metallic, entrenching-tool-like tip of its tail to fight Berwyn.
The Dragon’s tail was surprisingly powerful and agile, forcing even the dragon-slaying veteran Berwyn to dodge left and right.
Unfortunately, it succeeded because of its tail and failed because of its tail.
The Dragon accidentally used too much force and lodged its "entrenching tool" into a section of tree trunk. Now it could neither lift the trunk nor pull its tail free.
Berwyn, who had previously been forced into a miserable retreat, panted and mocked, "This is what happens when you’re too confident."
As the Dragon struggled to free the tree trunk from its tail tip, it tried to stall Berwyn’s attack. "So what if you kill me? You’ll be unemployed from now on."
Unemployed? Impossible. Besides, I’m so damn handsome—I’ll always be able to feed myself. Berwyn said disdainfully, "I will not stop the great cause of slaying dragons until I have killed the last Dragon in the world."
"I’m one of the only two Dragons left," the Dragon roared furiously at Berwyn. After taking a deep breath, it unleashed several bursts of high-explosive Dragon Breath at him.
The moment Berwyn saw the Dragon inhale deeply, he knew what it intended to do. With a sidelong leap and several rolls, he evaded the Dragon Breath.
When the Dragon Breath ended, Berwyn was covered in dust but completely unharmed. He sneered, "You just want to trick me into sparing you, you coward."
I just don’t want to die for nothing. The Dragon said indignantly, "Haven’t you noticed that there’s less and less prey lately?"
"Less? I ran into one just the day before yesterday." As he spoke, Berwyn recalled the humiliating experience of being turned into a sheep. He shuddered all over and said darkly, "She’s doing better than you. She’s already become a Mage’s lackey. All she has to do is wag her tail and she gets bones to eat."
"A Mage?" The Dragon froze for a moment, then narrowed its eyes and asked, "Are you sure she’s being controlled by a Mage?"
Mage was not a good word in this era.
Mages were people who could alter others’ destinies through sacrifices or certain rituals.
The most common method Mages used was casting curses, using them to control love, luck, health, and wealth, or to harm others out of personal hatred.
Although there were also Mages who used curses to fight evil forces and protect themselves and others, they were few and far between—rarer than national treasures.
If Scarface had truly been controlled by an evil Mage, the Dragon felt it necessary to rescue her, even if it had to sacrifice its own life.
After all, there were very few Dragons left. Even if the Dragon race was destined to end, its final reputation could not be ruined by the hands of a Mage.
With towering fury bottled inside, the Dragon’s tone gradually turned icy. "Where are the Mage and Scarface?"
In the air, Li Feng had been invisible the entire time, drinking and watching the show. Seeing that the Dragon wanted to meet him, he patted Scarface’s back to signal her to descend. "Let’s go, you Mage’s lackey."
Scarface rolled her eyes at Li Feng. After spending two days with him, she knew that while the spells Li Feng knew were far more evil than a Mage’s, Li Feng himself was not that bad.
At the very least, aside from restricting her freedom, Li Feng had done nothing to her. All he did every day was ride on her back and drink.
Scarface licked her huge mouth. Still, the wine tastes pretty good. The only problem is that the Gourd’s opening is too small. It takes forever to pour enough for one mouthful.
As Scarface dropped her invisibility and landed with Li Feng on the ground, the Dragon and the pale-faced Berwyn looked at Li Feng warily.
"Is he the Mage?" the Dragon quietly asked Berwyn beside it.
Before Berwyn could answer, Li Feng took a swig of wine. Seeing that there was barely any beer left in the Gourd, he simply tossed it to the eagerly staring Scarface and said to the Dragon, "I’m not a Mage. My name is Austin, and I’m a wizard."
Li Feng did not care whether the Dragon and Berwyn could distinguish between a wizard and a Mage. After all, he had come to ask the Dragon about Merlin’s whereabouts, not to explain the differences between spellcasters.
"Big lizard, do you know where Merlin is?" Li Feng asked with what he considered his friendliest smile.
Behind Li Feng, Scarface waved a claw at the Dragon in greeting while pouring the last mouthful of beer into her mouth. She then burped contentedly. As she lowered her head to return the Gourd to Li Feng, she said, "Buddy, if you dare call us Dragons big lizards again, believe it or not, I’ll team up with those two and beat you up."
Li Feng took the Gourd, put it into his shoulder bag, and shrugged. "I’m not bragging, but even if the three of you were tied together, you still wouldn’t be enough to entertain me."
Scarface opened her mouth, looked at the Dragon and Berwyn, then at Li Feng. Realizing they truly had no chance of winning, she simply lay down to rest and muttered, "What are you so smug about? Once I grow stronger, I’ll catch you and ride you as a mount every day."
Li Feng’s mouth twitched as he glanced speechlessly at Scarface’s massive body. Girl, do you even know what it means to ride a mount?
Meanwhile, the Dragon was somewhat confused. It could not tell what exactly Scarface’s relationship with Li Feng was.
If Scarface was controlled by Li Feng, then judging by the way she drank and spoke, it certainly did not sound that way.
But if Scarface was not controlled by Li Feng, why had she not left him? And why had she merely greeted the Dragon upon seeing it?
The Dragon quietly slipped free of the thick rope around its hind legs, stared intently at Li Feng, and asked, "Scarface, are you all right?"
Scarface weakly waved a claw. "What could happen to me? I’m fine." She pointed at Li Feng and said, "He wants to ask about Merlin. Do you know where Merlin is?"
The Dragon shook its head blankly. "Merlin retired into seclusion long ago. I don’t know where he is. Perhaps Merlin is already dead."
Li Feng stroked his chin as he walked toward the Dragon. "To be honest, I don’t really believe you, so I’m going to take a look for myself."
The moment he finished speaking, Li Feng efficiently petrified the Dragon. Turning into a cloud of gray mist, he floated above its head and examined its memories.
Seeing the Dragon standing motionless, Scarface thought Li Feng had killed it. She roared furiously and charged at Li Feng.
Berwyn had been planning to sneak away, but when he saw Scarface disregard life and death to attack Li Feng, his eyes lit up. Thinking this was the best chance to kill the evil Mage, he immediately stepped on the Dragon, raised his Crusader Sword, leaped high into the air, and stabbed at Li Feng.
Li Feng glanced at Scarface and Berwyn, then continued sifting through the Dragon’s memories as if nothing had happened, letting the two of them crash into his shield.
When Scarface and Berwyn saw that Li Feng’s shield only swayed slightly before nullifying their attacks, they exchanged a look. In perfect understanding, they retreated a few steps and charged at the shield again.
Only after Li Feng finished examining the Dragon’s memories and confirmed that it truly did not know where Merlin was did he lower his head and say, "Tell me, aren’t you tired of charging back and forth like this?" He kicked the Dragon. "This guy isn’t dead yet."
"Impossible." Scarface’s eyes flashed crimson, and her face twisted. "You liar, I was wrong to trust you—"
Before Scarface could finish, Li Feng had already lifted the Dragon’s Petrification Spell. Squatting atop the Dragon’s head, he met its eyes and said, "Buddy, why does it sound like Scarface wishes I’d killed you? Tell me, did you bully her and refuse to take responsibility?"
The Dragon silently glanced at the gossip-hungry Li Feng and said aggrievedly, "As a strong person, you should protect the weak, yet you use your strength to bully them. Don’t you feel ashamed?"
"Shame? How much does that cost per pound?" Li Feng flipped down to the ground. Rubbing his fists, he walked toward Berwyn with a smile. "That stab felt great, didn’t it? Now it’s my turn to bully you. Tell me, what do you want to become for the rest of your life? A blob of snot? Or a boar? How about a frog, waiting for some blind princess to kiss you?"
Berwyn’s face was covered in cold sweat. Though both hands trembled as they held the Crusader Sword, Li Feng noticed that his legs remained steadily bent, ready to burst forward at maximum speed and stab him at any moment.
Oh? You want to fight? Li Feng thought for a moment, then grinned and pulled the Scythe from his shoulder bag, swinging it a few times. "Originally, since you wanted to kill me, I could kill you without any guilt. But since your martial skills are pretty good, I’ll let you go if you can beat me."
As Li Feng continued approaching, Berwyn calculated the distance between them while forcing out a fake smile. "You’re so strong. How could I possibly be your—"
Before Berwyn could finish, he pushed off with both legs and shot toward Li Feng like an arrow. The sword in his hand flashed coldly as it stabbed toward Li Feng’s heart.
Li Feng sidestepped the thrust and swung the Scythe at Berwyn’s waist.
Berwyn immediately rolled away to evade the Scythe.
Seeing Li Feng and Berwyn fighting fiercely, the Dragon cautiously moved beside Scarface while keeping watch in case Li Feng killed Berwyn. "Who is he?" it asked.
"For now, he counts as a friend," Scarface casually explained. She looked curiously at the Dragon, then at Berwyn, and asked in puzzlement, "You seem really nervous about that dragon slayer?"
"Is it that obvious?" The Dragon fell silent for a while, then sighed heavily. "I know him. Back when I gave half of my Dragon Heart to Einon, Berwyn swore to serve me. He is a Knight who abides by the ancient Law."
Scarface curled her lip disdainfully. "But he’s killed plenty of Dragons, and he believes your heart corrupted Einon. Do you regret giving half your heart to a human?"
The Dragon remained silent bitterly. Do I regret it? Perhaps.
It was not as though it had failed to notice Einon’s cruel nature. It had merely naively believed that Einon could turn from evil under the influence of its Dragon Heart.
In the end, it gave up half its heart to save Einon, while it itself became burdened with sin, and its entire soul was corrupted by Einon.
The Dragon silently raised its head to gaze at the sky. Up there was the Heaven that belonged to Dragons. Can I still enter Heaven?
