Same Sexes Repel, Opposite Sexes Attract
Early the next morning
Su Yu brought Meng Qi and Little Ha to Tang Mansion. Wolf Lord’s scars had all been removed by Su Yu; after all, going out covered in scars would easily frighten other people.
Su Yu introduced Wolf Lord to Tang Kun, then let Wolf Lord go play on his own.
Su Yu and Meng Qi went to the rear garden. Tang Xuejian had arrived there early that morning and was practicing her piece. When she saw them arrive, she immediately stopped playing and said with a smile, "Little Uncle, Little Qi, you’re here."
Su Yu was technically Tang Xuejian’s uncle, but she was rather unwilling to call him Uncle, so she added "Little" in front of it, making it Little Uncle.
"Xuejian, you and Little Qi should each play the Origin Nurturing Heart Calming Melody once for me," Su Yu said as he sat down with his arms folded.
Tang Xuejian and Meng Qi nodded. Tang Xuejian began first. Her guqin skills were already quite impressive. After one performance, Su Yu could only pick out a dozen or so flaws. For someone who had studied the guqin for only a year, that was already exceptionally outstanding.
Next was Meng Qi. He placed both hands on the strings, and his fingers began playing almost instinctively. A year of practicing the Origin Nurturing Heart Calming Melody had given Meng Qi muscle memory.
Zheng zheng zheng zheng… zheng zheng zheng…
When the piece ended, Su Yu smiled and applauded. "Little Qi, not bad. All the flaws are gone now. What you need to do next is calm your heart as you play. The Origin Nurturing Heart Calming Melody can calm people, but if the player’s heart is unsettled, then the piece has failed."
Meng Qi nodded. "Master, I understand."
Tang Xuejian rubbed Meng Qi’s little head. "Wow, Little Qi, you’re amazing."
As she spoke, Tang Xuejian looked at Su Yu and asked, "Little Uncle, do I have any flaws?"
"You have seventeen shortcomings," Su Yu said. "Practice it a few more times, and you’ll be fine."
Tang Xuejian pursed her lips unhappily. "Oh."
"Don’t be upset. Little Qi only achieved flawlessness because he practiced nothing but this one piece for an entire year. Being able to reach only seventeen flaws already makes you a genius!" Su Yu said with a smile.
"Hmph, of course I’m a genius!" Tang Xuejian huffed proudly.
Su Yu smiled. He realized Tang Xuejian truly had no shame.
While Su Yu was teaching Tang Xuejian and Meng Qi, Wolf Lord’s reputation had already spread throughout Tang Mansion. This was how it happened.
After Su Yu left earlier, Tang Kun took Wolf Lord around Tang Mansion. But before they had walked for long, Wolf Lord saw a group of servants working together to carry a tree. Wolf Lord was a helpful wolf, so he immediately rushed over, picked up the huge tree by himself, and helped them carry it to its destination.
Just like that, everyone in Tang Mansion watched Wolf Lord in stunned silence as he carried them one after another, finishing them all.
After he was done, Wolf Lord clapped his hands, returned to Tang Kun’s side, and smiled. "Well, I saw they couldn’t carry them, so I helped out. That’s okay, right?"
"N-No problem. Little Ha, what is your full name?" Tang Kun asked.
Wolf Lord remembered Su Yu’s instructions from the night before. From now on, his name would be Su Lang.
Wolf Lord immediately followed what Su Yu had taught him and lightly clasped his fists. "I am Su Lang, courtesy name San Ha, known to all as Wolf Lord!"
It was obvious without thinking that he had added that last line himself.
Tang Kun was a little bewildered as well. One moment, he had sounded like a refined scholar; the next, Tang Kun felt as if he were looking at a martial artist from the jianghu.
Tang Kun smiled. "Little Ha, when did you become Little Yu’s subordinate?"
"Yesterday," Wolf Lord answered.
"Yesterday?" Tang Kun paused. He had been wondering whether Wolf Lord had been sent by Su Yu’s family, but apparently not.
Wolf Lord nodded. "Is something wrong?"
"Oh, nothing. Let’s continue."
After saying that, Tang Kun continued showing Wolf Lord around. Whenever Wolf Lord spotted heavy or tiring work along the way, he rushed over to help without hesitation. He couldn’t help it; his heart was just too warm.
Because of everything Wolf Lord did that day, everyone in Tang Mansion now knew him.
Whenever the servants saw Wolf Lord, they called him Wolf Lord. After all, they were servants and could not possibly call him Little Ha, while Wolf Lord was just the right form of address.
A day passed. After Su Yu said farewell to Tang Xuejian, he took Wolf Lord and Meng Qi back home. However, whenever they encountered a Tang Mansion servant while leaving, the servants would greet Wolf Lord, all saying, "Greetings, Wolf Lord."
After leaving Tang Mansion, Su Yu smiled at Wolf Lord. "You’ve got some skills, kid. In just one day, everyone in Tang Mansion is calling you Wolf Lord!"
"Hehe, keep it low-key, keep it low-key," Wolf Lord said smugly.
Su Yu smiled, then left.
One year later
Su Yu came to the main street. Tang Xuejian was now eighteen years old, so the story of Chinese Paladin should be beginning soon, right? During this time, Su Yu had come to the street every day. This was where Tang Xuejian and Jing Tian would be drawn together by their jade pendants.
Days passed one after another. Then one day, Su Yu suddenly sensed a mysterious force appearing. Like the magnetic pull that attracted iron, this force pulled a person from the east and another from the west toward this place.
Su Yu knew that Tang Xuejian and Jing Tian were about to meet for the first time. At that moment, Tang Xuejian’s cry came from East Street, while Jing Tian’s cry came from West Street. The two streets were thrown into chaos as the two of them crashed through them, turning everything upside down.
Standing in the middle, Su Yu watched the two collide, their jade pendants joining together. He smiled and said, "Same sexes really do repel, while opposite sexes attract."
Upon hearing Su Yu’s voice, Tang Xuejian immediately froze. "Little Uncle, why am I stuck to this brat? Hurry up and think of something!"
"Hey, hey, hey! What kind of way is that to talk?" Jing Tian immediately said unhappily.
Su Yu smiled, placing one hand on Tang Xuejian’s shoulder and the other on Jing Tian’s. With a gentle pull, he separated them directly.
Tang Xuejian immediately looked at Jing Tian. "Why was I drawn here for no reason? Was this your doing?"
"Don’t turn the tables on me! I was just about to say that you were the one behind this!" Jing Tian immediately protested.
Su Yu said with a smile, "You two, stop arguing. The reason you were drawn to each other should be because of your jade pendants."
The two froze, then took out their jade pendants. Tang Xuejian stared in disbelief at the other half of the pendant in Jing Tian’s hand. The owner of the other half of the jade pendant was supposed to be her fated husband…
Tang Xuejian looked Jing Tian over, then quietly hid her jade pendant away…
