That’s It?
Captain America had arrived, and Captain America had fallen again.
Captain America Rogers had not even looked cool for three seconds before Loki effortlessly took him down.
Loki held Thor’s Spear, which could wield Thor’s lightning power. Moreover, powered by the Mind Stone, this Thor’s Spear was even stronger than any other.
Loki was serious. After all, S.H.I.E.L.D.’s people had looked down on him, and he was genuinely angry.
As the First Mage of the Nine Realms, of course he had to use magic against Captain America.
His masterful illusion magic immediately left Captain America completely disoriented.
Dozens of "Lokis" in the field attacked at once. Captain America had no way to defend himself and had no idea which one was real.
Faced with attacks from every direction, all he could do was flounder helplessly.
In fact, all those "Lokis" were fake, mere illusions. The real Loki had used illusion magic to turn invisible and was watching from the side, waiting for an opportunity.
The instant he caught an opening in Captain America’s defense, he unhesitatingly struck him with a bolt of lightning.
I, Loki, do not merely bear the title of evil god. I am also the God of Mischief.
Playing a few tricks is not too much, is it?
Thus, Captain America was taken down.
"…"
At that moment, the pilot flying the Quinjet and broadcasting live was dumbfounded. Nick Fury, Tony Stark, and the Avengers aboard the Helicarrier, watching the live feed, were equally dumbfounded.
This was not right, was it?
Why had things unfolded completely differently from what they had expected?
Shouldn’t Captain America have shown off his skills, turned the tide, and brought Loki to justice?
Why was he about to exit the stage the moment he appeared?
Actually, it made perfect sense.
Captain America’s physical abilities were indeed impressive, but only relatively speaking.
As a human, no matter how great his strength and physique were, they had their limits.
Against Loki, a descendant of the Frost royal family, Captain America’s physical abilities were already far inferior.
On top of that, Loki had no intention of trading punches with Captain America, much less playing around with him. He had simply used magic from the start.
Captain America’s defeat had been entirely expected.
"Ha, interesting."
On the Helicarrier, Chen Mu watched the scene through the video feed and looked thoroughly entertained.
Captain America’s strength was indeed formidable, and his physical condition had reached the limits of humanity.
But that was all.
Those limits were only limits for humans. Compared to other powerful alien races, there was still an obvious gap.
Although Loki was known as the First Mage of the Nine Realms, his physical abilities were extremely strong. Even if he fought Captain America hand-to-hand, Captain America definitely would not be able to beat him.
Besides, Loki did not rely on his physical abilities in battle. He relied on magic!
Leaving aside his innate Frost Magic, he had studied spells for over a thousand years. Theoretically, dealing with Captain America should have been effortless.
Although plenty of people liked Captain America, rationally speaking, he was not actually that strong.
The reason he could slaughter enemies in the movies and fight anyone to a standstill was merely because the plot demanded it. It was not realistic at all.
Besides, Loki now held a true divine weapon. With the combination of Thor’s Spear and the Infinity Stones, Captain America alone had no way of defeating him.
Captain America was strong only in relative terms. He was merely strong for a human.
"You think an outdated World War II veteran can capture me? Isn’t that looking down on me a little too much?"
Loki spoke bitterly as he glanced at Captain America.
This guy’s physical condition really was incredible. Even after being struck by lightning, he seemed to have suffered no major harm. He was merely unconscious for the moment.
With Captain America’s physical abilities, he might wake up in just a couple of minutes.
"Tch, I thought he was supposed to be strong."
Holding Thor’s Spear, Loki walked toward Captain America with a cold expression.
He raised his spear high, preparing to finish Captain America off directly.
This sight made Nick Fury and the others watching from the distant Helicarrier break into a cold sweat.
Damn it, Loki was going for the kill!
Of course he was. Loki would not be foolish enough to show mercy to an enemy.
Loki had no relationship with Captain America. Faced with a soldier dressed in a ridiculous Joker costume, there was no reason for Loki to spare his life. He was prepared to use Thor’s Spear to stab straight through his heart.
Rat-a-tat-tat!
How could Nick Fury allow that to happen?
Captain America was someone S.H.I.E.L.D. had gone to great lengths to rescue from the ice, spending enormous manpower and resources. How could they possibly let Captain America die so easily?
Therefore, Nick Fury immediately ordered the Quinjet to attack, hoping to save Captain America.
The Quinjet opened fire without hesitation, completely disregarding the ordinary people kneeling all around.
In S.H.I.E.L.D.’s eyes, everyone had their value, and Captain America’s value was clearly far greater than that of these ordinary civilians.
Thus, even if stray bullets killed those ordinary people, it was worth it.
"Wow, your S.H.I.E.L.D. really is ruthless."
Far away on the Helicarrier, Chen Mu clicked his tongue in amazement again. Seeing the severed limbs scattered across the screen, he could not help feeling a little surprised.
"That was just an accident!"
Beside him, Coulson’s expression turned rather unpleasant as well.
His temporary assignment was to stall Chen Mu and prevent him from interfering with the Avengers’ so-called meeting.
So he had brought Chen Mu to a surveillance room to watch the battle in real time.
Of course, Coulson also had his own selfish reasons. He cared greatly about how his idol, Captain America, was doing.
Thus, he had used his authority to find a surveillance room, pull up the footage, and sit there drinking tea with Chen Mu.
Yet from Captain America’s entrance until now, Coulson had been completely bewildered.
That’s it?
My idol, Captain America, was only this capable?
He had not even looked cool for three seconds before Loki took him down. I could have done that too!
Agents and soldiers fought differently. If Coulson had gone up against Loki, he might even have been able to stall him longer than Captain America had.
And now, clearly, Nick Fury had ordered the Quinjet to fire in order to save Captain America, killing countless ordinary people. This had nothing at all to do with the stories of Captain America’s self-sacrifice that Coulson had heard as a child!
Of course, Coulson knew that all of this had been ordered by the Director. If it had been Captain America himself, perhaps he really would have been willing to sacrifice himself.
But it was too late to say anything now. It had already happened. Dozens of ordinary people had died to save Captain America; that was an indisputable fact.
